What can a Rosette do?

By ThenDoctor, in Dark Heresy

This has recently come to my mind, what can a Rosette do? i read in the Eisenhorn novels that its a lockpick and a security pass and can decode certain levels of encryptions, but other than instilling fear in heretics and scum what can this handy trinket get up to?

I believe the core book somewhere says that it's up to the individual who carries the rosette. Eisenhorn had his kitted out, since it would never be denied to him within normal imperial function, and would be inconspicuous.

I run with "it's an insignia", and if people want to trick it out, they're welcome to.

ok well that begs the question how can you fully trick it out?

In my games at the least, all players have a rossette. Currently, it just identifies the Acolytes as Inquisitorial agents. Later on, it'll act as a security pass, a hacking device for small terminals and other stuffs :)

I thought the one mentioned in the Eisenhorn book with the lockpick and security pass is in fact his Inquisitorial Seal and not the Rosette. If I remeber correctly the Rosette is 'only' an ID so to speak, identifying the holder as an Inquisitor or Inquisitorial agent. The Seal on the other hand is a very powerful object in itself with a whole lot of features (ranging from digi-weapons to all kind of decoders).

Depends on how similar the functions are. The Rosette with Eisenhorn was pretty much computer-related, with decoding equipment, "lockpicks" (digital I assume, and not physical picks) and a few other things. Those are all pretty similar, so maybe an all-purpose interface and a bunch of programming. I might throw a vox or something similar into it.

Otherwise, if you wanted decryption, a grenade, and 50 feet of coiled super-thin nanotube line all crammed into something the size of a 50 cent piece, I might have issues with that.

I'd also probably say that each rosette might have an "inquisitorial code" that could quickly verify to a computer that the user was an inquisitor. It's a piece of identification, so I'd probably have a bit of biometrics encoded into it along with the clearance. The inquisitor scans his palm/eye/whatever and swipes his rosette, and if the two match, he has access. It'd make it a hell of a lot easier than waiting for data to transfer back and forth between the conclave and the field.

Paperweight, doorstop, letter opener, Grox-brander ...

Gee, all sorts of fun and useful uses. lengua.gif

My inquisitor has an i-Rosette with MP3s on it.

Psh! While, my inquisitor only has a doc for an iPod in his, it comes standard with Bose high end speakers, it dobles as an iPhone 3Gs, and has Garmin built in! Beat that! Now if he could just stop twittering all those important mission details...

What does an Inquistion rosette actually look like? Any pictures of examples anywhere?

I have to say, I always picture something Pony Club stylee

I should probably think that through!

I imagen it being the largre chunk of metal formed like the =I= you see hanging of all the Inquisitors...

Oh yeah. It makes tacos, too. FACE!!!

So it's basically a 'police badge' type of thing, with the "I" and perhaps a skull or two for taste, plus your Inquisitor's name on it? A sort of milder version of Inquisitior's own badge of office?

it doesnt have a name on it it has an identification code in it.

Ok, thanks. But I assume this identification code would link the badge's user to his Inquisitior specifically and to the Inquisition in general? I have not checked the gear section much yet, is this information in there or perhapsin the IH?

Sorry, me being hamfisted again.

no they dont describe what a rosette does...i wish they did lol ive just read in fluff what it does and wanted to know what it could do fully

Yes, it's a bit of nuisance not to have been described or having pics, becuase it's one thing my players will be sure to ask about. sad.gif

Wikipedia rosette. You can see cloth examples of rosettes. Spice it up a little and there you go.
