So lets talk about storage...

New poster to this forum so I thought I'd submit my two cents. Plano 7771 is what I use. I don't have images handy but I find it more than capable of holding all my gear to completely field both fleets. I supply friends when we play so I have to carry it all. Plus they're cheapskates. :D

I'll add in some images of my arrangement when I get home later. Currently it's able to hold the following with no issues and I anticipate l will have plenty of room for Wave 5 when it hits:

  • 2 Core Armada set ships and all included accessories
  • 2 Imperial Star Destroyers
  • 1 Home One
  • 1 Liberty
  • 1 Victory Star Destroyer (+2 Victories from Core)
  • 1 Interdictor Cruiser
  • 2 Assault Frigates
  • 3 Gladiator Star Destroyers
  • 1 Corellian Corvette (+2 Corvettes from Core)
  • 2 Nebulon B Frigates (+2 Frigates from Core)
  • 4 Raiders
  • 1 Gozanti
  • 2 GR-75s
  • 2 Imperial Fighter Packs
  • 3 Rebel Fighter Packs
  • 2 Rogues and Villains Packs

Granted I don't have the capital ships secured in foam or any packing but you'd be amazed how sturdy they are despite being subjected to the occasional shake and rattle. My Victories still have their antennas despite the setup.

Everything is conveniently stored and accessible.

  • Top lid section holds all my tokens, damage cards, rulers and extra dice easily.
  • Top tray holds all my small ship bases, ship and squadron cards, manuals, and medium and large base ships
  • I have the four trays holding the small ships and squadrons with their stands and accessories
  • The bottom right compartment holds all my medium and large ship bases

The box was a little pricey (~80.00 USD), it's large and is starting to get heavy and I wish the top lid tray had a clasp instead of a snap-lid but overall I've been pretty happy with it.

Like Jukey, it takes a bit of time (though not as much as you'd think) but buying some upholstering foam or an equivalent and cutting bits out is as cheap as you're gonna get and frankly it's the best option.

The pre cut stuff doesn't make the most efficient use of surface area. Because you're working around your collection and not some hypothetical collection, you can tetris your collection together much tighter and use a much smaller container than the pre-cuts allow for. Obviously this also means you can customize for a container you already have.

Like I said, cutting the foam is not a big deal. A marker for making reference points, your collection to base those points off of, an exacto knife, and a free block of time (great thing to work on while watching a show) are all that you need to secure your ships in a way which no other option really matches.

You also get little foam cutouts that look like squishy space ships to play with at the end of it all.

I've done this in the past and never been pleased with the results. Which is why I'm looking at Battlefoam and Feldherr.

I know Feldherr is kind of pricey but it's been worth it for me

I have a fairly substantial X-wing collection housed in Feldherr, having migrated from some raster foam in left over flight cases I had lying around after the collection got too big. I "archive" the collection in their cardboard boxes, and have a couple of the small bags for transport to the store/events with a list or two. Works a treat, and it has paid for itself on a few occasions (read: saved certain destruction following a drop or two), so I'm a big fan.

I'm only recently involved in Armada, but I'm already putting together what I'll need from Feldherr to get going. Probably the bones of €70 to cover wave 1-3, but worth it in my opinion. I considered getting a bunch of raster foam, but I know I'll end up buying their trays anyway.

My biggest nightmare so far has been trying to find good storage solutions for the ship cards. The squadron and upgrade cards aren't an issue, Ultra Pro folders have me covered there, but goddamn those ship cards are a pain in the proverbial.

Below is my alternate storage solution, that is highly customizable to your likings. I have been doing this method since Wave 1. I always want to take apart as few fighter stands and ship stands as possible. This allows for a lot items to remain standing, and easy to pull out and plop down on the table.

All of the items are easy to acquire. It takes a bit of time to put together, but is relatively cheap compared to other options.

Items I used are as follows:

- Straight edge razor

- Tape measure

- Metal yard stick as cutting guide

- Cutting surface

- Clear packaging tape

- Foam board from local store (i.e. Target, Staples, Wal-Mart)

- Desired plastic storage container/tote (I prefer the ones with a foam lined lid to keep elements out).

- Any other soft foam you want to add for areas, such as keeping ISD’s level.

Insert desired foam with cutouts to allow for items like ISD's to sit flat.

You can easily deck it out with more Armada art work.

Everything nests well in the storage closet.

That looks awesome!

Last tournament I saw a guy who was using a pluck foam rifle case for his ships. The dimensions were ludicrous; stupid long, as wide as you'd want, and deep enough for everything at any angle (except, like, vertical out of the foam). It looked as though it'd be enough for, frankly, multiples of everything through like wave 8 or more and has the plus side of being much cheaper than a specialist hobby miniature foam solution would be.

I'm actually pretty tempted to get one myself.

I have looked at those as well, though I'd want to paint it something other than 'rifle case black'. That way it doesn't draw undue attention.
