So lets talk about storage...

OK,

First of this game is great. Now I have been trying to figure out what to use to store this and wave one stuff.. I am unsure of what to use. The planos I use for x wing and IA will not work. Has anyone found anything that works well yet? What are you using? Pictures and or links we be great! Thanks!

Tackle boxes won't work, which is what most of us use for X-Wing or IA. But a toolbox might, they typically have a big empty inter compartment that you could customize for the big ships.

Something like a Plano 823-003

I'm going to continue to use Battle Foam, although I'm going to wait until Wave 1 comes out before ordering new trays for Armada.

I'm planning to use a similar system that I did for x-wing.

Each of my x-wing ships has a cardboard box that it rests in, assembled on its stand, and contains the relevant tokens like a TL, shields, the cardboard bases, and the dial. On a layer above these boxes is a tray with compartments for the movement templates, obstacles, focus tokens, etc. The strength of that system over the plano's is that set up and take down are a breeze since I don't have to assemble my ships or take them apart for storage.

I made the little boxes modular too. Right now I have 20 "units" of storage that fits in my core box, holding 16 ships, and the token tray sits on top. The lid doesn't go all the way down, but it slides on well enough. When my collection grows I'll build a new shell container to hold trays for the boxes and tokens.

I had the materials and tools already on hand, and opted to spend 2 hours putting that together rather than getting a tackle box. Plus I wanted the ease of set up and put away. I really like being able to grab assembled ships and put them right out.

Having carted a bit of core kit about for games today, this is my main concern now. Not painting a **** thing until I get this sorted.

What is the consensus from the X-Wingers? Foam and a carry case?!

I'm suspecting something in the toolbox route, with some foam to properly dock everything so I don't have to worry about my Neb-B's spine breaking or the antennae snapping from the VSD.

So i know where to buy a tool nox, but what about foam? I keep thinking of one of them fancy pillows, but i dont think that would work....

The core set box is big enough that I bet it will last you through the first 2 waves.

Just asked BattleFoam about trays. Thy said they're not partnered with FFG in any way. The rep said that they had to order Star Wars Armada line just like everyone else. Once they receive the game they'll design the tray and post it for sale.

Yep, and it usually takes a few days after stuff ships for them to update their tray creator

I'll probably look in to doing my own foam storage solution, probably more cost effective that way. :P

Do you have enough ships to represent each pilot individually?

Otherwise how do you change the pilot markers on the ship bases without taking them apart?

I only own 2-6 of each fighter type, so I don't have enough to keep one for each unique pilot and a few of each of the generics always on the stands, so I have to take them apart when I put them away anyway, and put them back together when I'm ready to play - so for me, it's no big deal.

I only have multiples in the following quantities : 3 z-95s, 2 b-wings, 3 tie fighters.

Mostly I have favorite pilots that I tend to use with each ship, so I don't end up changing the bases out that often. For instance the 2 b-wings have been a blue and keyan for about the last 6 weeks, my e-wing has stayed on Corran for a really long time. The only one that changes with any regularity is the a-wing.

Its still fast because its usually either flipping over the cardboard already in there, or grabbing the other one in the box. The ship just has to come off to put on the new cardboard, and it doesn't matter if peg stays behind or comes with the ship. Its a matter of about 10 seconds.

With the core set, it took some patience and gentle touch, but I have the squadrons assembled underneath the tall plastic tray that the ships come in. The only ship I cannot get back into its place is the Nebulon B, mostly because I'm worried the torque needed to get the front to snap back in will break the spine or something else. It rests in there easy enough though.

I also have the tokens sorted into individual ziplocs, except for the tokens and dials that each specific ship needs, which are together in one bag per ship.

Definitely will be using BattleFoam as soon as it's available. I've had a lot of success with that system in other games. Really great protection.

I ordered one of the giant new GW figure cases, so I will be sticking my models in that to see how it looks. If that style of foam works well I will probably just pick up the small version. It is relatively cheap, and while the plano I have for xwing is half the price, to get one big enough for this game I am thinking that it will be impossible or too expensive. Maybe a smaller one for the parts but the ships are going to need some real protection I think

Hello friends.

We had a linked discussion about storage options several weeks ago in my " How will you store your Armada Miniatures? " thread.

I am still uncertain as to what I will do, although I think using foam of some sort is a preferred option for me, personally. :)

Mastercraft makes a 13"x18"x6" power tool briefcase with full punch foam insert and topper for $25. Cheap, and makes thing easy. Have room for all my core and wave one ships (2 of each) and all their bases. I carry all the tokens, dials and fighters in a small 1 level tackle box.

I hope battle foam release some specialized trays in time for wave one or shortly after.

It was mentioned a little earlier in this thread that they have to buy the pieces just like us, then it takes them a couple days to design the trays once they get the pieces in hand.

Well I'm willing to wait for that, the plastic trays will be temporary solution until that time.

Yeah, I might invest in battlefoam for this game. I've made do with plano and Stanley organizers for previous miniature games, but I just don't thing that will work with Armada, given the large range of size in the minis.

This Plano will work ...

I think unlike the miniscule X-Wing box, the Armada box should be capable of holding at least a wave or two worth of ships, though perhaps with having dismantled the bases.

Fingers crossed Battlefoam comes out with inserts which fit the retail box which you can customize the shapes of. :)
