Core Set Mini Size

By Utar, in Star Wars: Armada

Would anyone of you folks lucky enough to have gotten your core set mind posting the exact length of the minis? I am wondering (based on the sizes/scales) what existing minis and models can be reasonably used along side the armada stuff. Thanks!

Victory is about 5.5" base is 4"

CR90 is 2.5" base just under 3"

Neb B is 3.5" Just under 3"

And just an FYI, the super star destroyer is 19,000 meters (19 km = 11.8 miles, give or take a few meters) in case anyone was wondering. :-)

I know; I checked.

If they made an Executor mini to scale with the Victory-class SD, then it would be nearly 10 feet long. That's not going to fit on even a 3x6 playing surface, I'm afraid.

I can see the SSD being like 15" long or slightly more, it means we could possibly see it in the far future of the game but its not out of the realms of possibility.

You forget that it's a sliding scale, so the SSD would probably be 6 feet. It would fit sideways on the 3x6 play area...

One firing arc, one set of shields, many...many guns.

Speaking of other minis, I compared the SWA models with ones from the old Star Wars Miniatures game. Some of the small ones like the corvette, republic cruiser, and the freighters fit ok. The prequel lander (Acclamator?) also is reasonably close. But the other capital ships are humerously small. The old prequel ships might work since we never see them together with the new ships so only a hard core SW fan would know they are too small.

I'll try to post some pictures this weekend.

[EDIT: For some reason I said EU instead of Prequel.]

I measured mine to be:
VSD: 140mm
Nebulon-B: 93mm
CR-90: 58mm

Also, when I measure my bases they appear to be 1-3mm large than the sizes listed in the reference manual. Anybody else notice this or did I get the edge of the manufacturing tolerances?

I only care that the interdictor is similar size to the gladiator.

I just hope they do the Acclamator class that would only be slightly smaller than the Gladiator.

Acclamator was actually 200 meters longer at 700 compared to 500 of gladiator

I just got my core sets and am seeing the CR90 in person for the first time. It's REALLY small. Plus I think they made the box that big so the $100 retail price fits! Don't take it the wrong way. I love FFG products and the company but Marketing maybe not so much.

And people complained about the sliding scale!

For reference, if they HADN'T done the sliding scale (the way a few vocal people wanted) the CR-90 would be 23.3mm long, or less than half the size of the current one.

It's just right IMO. Looks small compared to the other ships, but big enough that you can actually see it....

A 23.3mm long CR-90 would have been AWESOME! Can't wait for someone to get on Shapeways and pop one out. Ill buy at least 6!

Tbh, I might too. But that doesn't change the fact it would have been a terrible decision for the majority of customers for FFG to make.

Would it? Maybe the ship might not seem so over powered if a pair of 23.3mm CR-90s were on the small base. That way they function like the WWII destroyer escorts they mimic in the movies. get rid of thier long and medium range weapons too. No way ships like that have the power capacity for that massive engine AND battleship caliber guns.

Not complaining. Just commenting. I will say the X-Wings and TIE's are way better than I expected.

Here's a picture with some of the small capital ships from SW Miniatures Starship Battles. The Armada ships are on either end. As you can see they aren't too far off. The two transports (I think the brown one is some sort of transport) and the EP1 cruiser would work well as objectives or some sort of convoy. I can't recall what that weird Nebulon-B thing is. It's got two front wings and fins in the back. The names for these miniatures were on the bases and I tossed them long ago.

Here's the VSD next to some SWMSB ships from the prequels. These ships are seriously undersized but, since they never share screen time, they might still work.

Finally, here's the VSD next to some of the Mon Cal ships. The middle one is supposed to be Home One but since they are all just bumpy blobs, you could use these as proxies for smaller Mon Cal designs. I was running out of time before dinner and this one ended up blurry. Not much to see in any event. the Mon Cal ships from this game are especially crappy looking.

Sorry about the image dump.

Actually, that Acclamator model is very close to being in scale with the Victory. The Acclamator, according to Wookipedia, was 756 meters long. Also, th Interdictor model that was in SWMSB is just bearly under sized as well. Both those models might be useful in this game, maybe not as actual fighting units, but as objectives, terrain, etc.

Here's Armada's VSD next to some of the SWMB Imperials. The paint on these are weird. It's like some sort of digital camo pattern. The Interdictor looks like a bumpy camo Dorito. They are much worse in person. The middle ship is the ISD.

Your right about the paint jobs. However, look closely at the Interdictor itself. The model is very well done. The paneling is very much in keeping with the Armada VSD. A good custom paint job would bring it together. Same for the Acclamator.

Do you happen to have the dreadnought model?

The larger models from this game seem to be made of two pieces and are hollow on the inside. So both my Interdictor and ISD (and most Mon Cals) are sort of crushed flat.

I don't have the dreadnought. The ships in the photo are all I have.
