March madness on MM for X-wing! (literally just the X-wing)

By gamblertuba, in X-Wing

Thought about leaving that last bit out of the title but that would be mean.

Anyway, if you don't have your fill of the poor neglected X-wing they are half price right now.

it's like they know it's the least worthwhile :P

You get most of the great X-wing stuff in the core set (Lukes and Biggs, plus R2-D2 for Luke or E-wings) and the transport (R3-A2, motherf*ckers!!! also Liam Mison)

The X-wing expansion gets you...Wedge?

I'd buy another one, if I didn't already have five.

It is a fun time in an epic game to field 12 xwings just a thought.

With the raider coming out you need someone to watch as Porkens craahes into the side of it.

Wedge is pretty friggin good though. Wedge gets kicked around a lot when discussing a possible boost for the X-wing because he could be over-powered fairly easily.

I flew wedge with expose one time 5 range 1 shots was amazing

The problem with Expose in a nutshell is that it's fun to roll 5 dice, but it's typically more effective to roll 4 dice with a target lock.

THe problem with Wedge overall is that he's incredibly glass cannon. He's scary powerful, but against four dice attacks that seem to be all the rage, he folds like origami

it's why I personally prefer Luke in general, his ability makes him hilariously durable in comparison

Luke can sometimes just not die. I've seen Luke shrug off 5-6 attacks before. Albeit my dice were awful and his were great, but I just couldn't land anything on him.

Wedge's ability is almost his downfall. Its still one of the top 5 abilities in the game, but he's flying a ship that can't arc dodge and is not all that durable. He's usually the obvious choice to blow up first.

Ever fly wedge with out maneuver and engine? Hilarious when it works (rarely) but isn't anything near competitive. But I do like saying ok I'm shooting at felt so I'll get 3 dice to your 1

yay, time to gush about Luke

when I got the core set, I dismissed Luke for the same reason I dismissed green dice (when the green dice are unreliable, how would an ability that relies on them be reliable?) but its quite amazing (even ignoring the many times I blank completely <_< )

Luke takes the X-wing statline and

1.) makes it stupid durable against swarm ships, greatly extending his survivability against ties and the like relative to the typical X-wing

2.) makes taking 3 dice attacks far less scary

3.) Makes HLC and phantoms still terrifying but survivable, giving him enough time to slap them with a crippling R3-A2 stress or two before he bites the dust

Luke is surprisingly strong. If I wasn't so busy championing the Stress-wing, I'd be flying Lone Wolf + R2-D2 which seems like an absolutely murderous late game ship.

Luke is imo what the X-wing seemed initially designed to be. He has the durability to compensate for the X-wing's lack of barrel-roll or boost (not necessarily for arc-dodging purposes, but in terms of repositioning for future turns and thus greatly increasing the ways in which they can approach a target ala B-wngs) and the durability to let you load him up (within reason) with some awesome upgrades.

Wedge was also quite awesome just because of how scary he has. I used to run him all the time with Predator and, alongside Keyan, he created a horribly difficult choice of who to shoot at. Sadly, I found he just can't stand up to the recent popularity of four dice attacks in my local area (where before it was a lot of phantom min-swarm and Wedge could deal with just the phantom, ships such as expose Decimators, super dashes, and now HLC aggressors have enough hull to bulldoze through him)

Anyone know what astros only come in that expo?

Also, after trying some 3X lists in the current meta... I am now agreeing with MJ's home brew assessment: They need something. Either more hull as he gave them, or more maneuverability.

R5-K6 (37.5% chance to reacquire a target lock) and R5 Astromech (Flip a Ship damage card facedown during the End phase).

Okay somehow I've got them already.

Sigh I have 5 Xs. I don't know what to do with them. We don't play much epic. And I don't think I'd run 5 Xs anyway. They're a cool squad together though.

Reminds me of ace combat 5. Squads were 4 people. But one died and was replaced. So you had 5 total wingmen but you could only have 4 at a time.

Welp, they sold out. I was going to get five or six of them earlier so I could have all of Red Squadron... :(

Just fly him with Dutch: Problem solved!
