Tactics for Ritual of Shadows

By Funkfried, in Descent: Journeys in the Dark

Good day to you folk,

I'm interested in your tactics for the Ritual of Shadows Quest from the Shadow Rune Campaign.

We played it yesterday and the heroes only won because our hexer was lucky enough to place some Hex tokens on the lieutenant and use affliction to damage him while moving.

We never had line of sight to the lieutenant as all floors were flooded with monsters and we had to skip our first turn. That gets especially sinister as it is a quest where kobolds seem to be allowed.

How do your hero groups deal with this quest except for maybe a lucky immobilze? Do you skip it all together?

I'm not a strategic genius, but this quest is very tough for the heroes. In encounter 1, it's not realistic to get to Merrick before he has time to do a good deal of his ritual, which he's almost certain to pass because of the flesh moulders. In encounter 2, therefore, he's got a good shot at getting away- there isn't much to be done about it. I picked this quest in the shadow rune once as an easy win right before the finale- I had played as a "punisher" class, and wanted to trade in (most) of those cards for warlord, since the finale was going to be a slugfest. It never really felt like a risk, though the hexer definitely makes a compelling strategy with "affliction".

Thought so :-/

Thanks nether less.

This is one of the "chase" style quests that I hate so much. Unless the heroes are perfect, they will have a very hard time winning.
