Well I asked for X-Wing news and I sure did get it...

By Crabbok, in X-Wing

No article on FFG's page, but PlayMat Nerfs, Phantom nerfs, and range 4-5 changed to be like Range 3!?!?!

All this on the day I picked up Armada, and my mind is now torn as to which game i'm going to think about. Screw it, I'm gonna go think about Imperial Assault now. :P

Hahah nice work friendo

It make sense for range 4-5 to now be just like range 3. The huge ships really had no chance against fighters. Every time you attack with a primary weapon you gave the defender green dice. You still give the defender green dice with every primary weapon attack it is just now they don't always end up with more green dice then you have red dice.

Also you don't get 2 extra attack dice when attacking at range 0 looks at Arvel Crynyd* <_<

Way more intrigued about this latest stuff than a reveal about the next wave!

Yea this decloak alone has a much bigger impact than any new pilot or card from Raider.

Really hopeful that PS will gradually drift back down from the 9 and 10 we see so much now.

Basically phantom players now play by the same rules as everyone else. If you can plan effectively and read your opponent, this rule might actually help your phantom as it will be harder to block decloaks. Choose the wrong decloak and maneuver though and you're boned like any other ship.

What play mat change. Did I miss something. I know about the debris tokens

In a nutshell, only FFG playmats are allowed at premier events.

That Decloak nerf is... genius.

When you think about it, it's much more thematic. The cloak mechanic represents not knowing where the phantom is, but it is somewhere. The previous mechanic allowed the phantom to decide where it was to choose the optimal position: it felt more like a super barrel roll rather than cloaking.

However, low pilot skill phantoms are most unaffected and Intelligence Agent is now INCREDIBLY valuable.

Only FFG playmats are allowed at ANY event. No more third-party mats outside your kitchen table.

Any OFFICIAL event.

Granted, reducing the number of official events and replacing them with unofficial ones is not a good thing, of course, but it's not quite the "falling sky" level you're making it out to be.

Seriously, Look what you started!

So local stores that have Store Championships or Regional Tournaments must now have official mats? That is going to suck for those stores especially regional tournaments with 50 or 60 people playing.

The rule on mats stats "if" you use mats. You can just not use play mats.

...which includes Store Championships, prerelease tourneys like Kessel Run and Imdaar Alpha, and I imagine any tournament that uses FFG kits as well. "Unofficial" tournaments may as well be played on your kitchen table, as I said. Keffisch specifically mentioned "premiere" events, which is a classification of events per the Tournament Rules PDF and it's inaccurate to say that the playmat rule applies only to those. The PDF makes no exceptions for any level of event.

The official mat thing has been blown out of proportion, in my opinion.

I think it's good that there's a written rule about it for the sake of TOs who would need to fall back on it, if there was ever an issue of a shady mat being used, with markings that could be exploited for distance visualisation. A TO could look at this thing and rule it out AND be backed by the tournament FAQ and that would be the end of it.

Otherwise, most TO will accept 99.9% of all mats as there's a healthy number of other things they have to worry about.

What will be the next nerf or change this week? Predictions follow:

  • Turretted ships can now only fire outside their arc if the defender is range 1 - 2. If they want to fire range 3, the defender must be in arc.
  • Initiative now allows you to choose at the start of each turn, how all ties in pilot skill will be handled. You may opt to move first and shoot last, move last and shoot first, or any combination. Or if you and your opponent each have 2 PS 5 ships, you may have ONE of your PS 5 ships move, then both of your opponents, then your last PS 5 ship, then you may fire first with both. Essentially, initiative makes you a god.
  • Players can now Destroy Asteroids. They have 6 hull each. Critical hits count as 2 damage.
  • Upon release of the Raider, Darth Vader counts as having the Advanced X1 title without the card equipped. This means with ther Raider a player can have 5 TIE Advanced titles if they own Darth Vader.
  • Painting your ships is now illegal. For those of who you have alreayd painted, FFG now sells FFG Paint Stripper, only 59.99.
  • Clone Wars: No duplicate unique pilots / crew can exist on an entire map. This means if you have Luke Skywalker Pilot, and your opponent has Luke Skywalker Gunner, the player with initiative gets to keep him, and the opponent must discard his upgrade at the start of the game.
  • X-Wing will now be used to settle Squadron Battles in Armada. Armada tournament rounds have now been extended to seven hours each.

This will only Happen at the end of an Imperial Assault mission when the hero's need the ships to come and rescue them - with their Evac signal detected, the orbital space battle will ensue.

Dice will be replaced by shooting targets with an AR-15 at 175yds. You don't want to know about the blinded pilot crits...

Yes - everybody blame Crabbok as this is clearly all his fault.

Be careful what you wish for next time Crabbster
