Painted Squadrons (Pics)

By TylerMK, in Star Wars: Armada

Did a very quick and simple job of painting some X-Wings. Took little time or effort, and is I think quite effective at arm's length on the table.

Wow, these look really nice!

I like that you painted the astromechs. It gives each ship its own unique feel. :)

d'awwwww

they're adorable ^_^

OKAY.......where's the Imperials? ;)

Why are they all Red 2 or Green 2?

Also: Dark wash.

All nitpicking aside. They look great. Very steady hand. Did you do it freehand?

The Green Squadron is a nice touch. I love it! :3

Yes, freehand. I paint historical miniatures for a lot of different games, mostly Napoleonics and WW2, so I had the paints and the practice.

Also customised one of my corvettes a bit, just for variety's sake.

My group is playing our first games tomorrow afternoon. I'm hoping to have all the X-Wings painted by then. The Tie fighters I may not have time for.

Wow, the X-Wings and the customized Corvette look awesome. Did you paint them with a base coat of grey first or did you apply the color directly to the X-Wings?

Hmm... makes me want to paint my TIE Fighters... good thing I've been painting 15mm minis recently.

Any suggestions for Howl?

Sweet! Improves on my efforts no end!

I would consider a shading wash for the fighters but that is just how I roll ;)

I don't suppose you do commissions...

...but seriously,

...do you?

And do a distance shot of them on the table the way you'd normally see them on the table if you can. Give a better feel to how they'll look in-game. :)

Tried to do a shading wash, but unfortunately the plastic wouldn't take it. Odd that the normal paints worked fine, it the wash wouldn't.

For that, you would have to base coat them with spray paint and paint them fully from scratch. Not what I was looking to do.

I'll take some pics of them in action tomorrow.

where's my tin foil hat??... you were either reading my mind or going through my sketch book LOL!! love them they look fantastic.

Nice job :)

I'm just trying s quick and dirty paint job on mine: wash and dry brush. Might add a little detail in (my hands are not as steady as yours). The wash seems to have held - just waiting for it to dry before I do more.

The rebel scum is a talented painter. We shall look forward to defeating and enslaving him. Tie fighters need love too!

That looks great! I am totally going to steal this idea :)

Nice work

If you plan on giving Neb B a wash please post result!

what size brush or marker were you using?

Definitely going to be doing this myself, a little customization goes a long way, and a great way to keep track of "Your" ships

Nice job :)

This is basically what I plan to do.

FWIW, it might be a good idea to give the ships a gentle bath in hot water and dishsoap before applying any paint. If they have any traces of mold release agent on their surfaces it could be what's preventing the wash from sticking.

I didn't have an issue with the paint wash either but I did thoroughly wash the models first. No primer either. For those with unsteady hands, you can get some really straight lines/shapes by painting sloppy and then letting the paint dry and taking an exacto knife to scrape away the excess paint into clean lines. This likely only works if you didn't prime the little guys first.

OP Those look great! I was thinking I would not bother painting, but you just changed my mind.

Those do look great. Any chance of getting a picture from a little further away and next to another ship?
