Debris tokens: tourney legal

By PhantomFO, in X-Wing

Fixed link in the OP.

They also added the same stupid change to Playmats for standard tournaments. If you're going to use a playmat, you can only use the official FFG Starfield map. They do not give TOs flexibility to use other mats.

This is, frankly, the most annoying decision they could have made. I expect most venues will either give it some latittude, or will just play on tables that have been marked off into 3x3 squares. Expecting a 30-person event to have 15 FFG starmaps seems a bit unreasonable.

Ugh, that's terrible. The FFG mats are annoyingly slippery and quite expensive.

I just read the setup rules, and I didn't see this. Where is it?

Page 1, second column, second paragraph from the end of the page.

If playmats are used, only official FFG X-Wing™ Playmats are allowed. This is to guarantee a consistent experience for players and prevent any advantage players may gain from familiarity with a particular map.

You know? That... That kind of makes sense. If one player is so familiar with one of the maps that they can tell exactly how far it is from the left side of the death start to... Whatever, then they really do have an advantage.

I think the solution is to mandate more, rather than fewer, maps, though.

The tournament rules links are no longer working and the link on their website takes you to the old version. Damnit, I have a store championship tomorrow.

Well I guess in the future we can just turn our mats over and play on the blank side, that should really give us a consistent experience, just like a taped square.

FFG's page announcing them indicate they do not go into effect until April 15.

RE: Playmats

Note that the following text was deleted:

"Players cannot bring their own playmats to play on instead of the play
surfaces provided by the TO. A TO may borrow playmats from players ahead
of time, but they must be randomized to ensure fairness."

Therefore, a player can bring his/her own playmat, provided it is one of the official X-Wing play mats. (Or so it seems.)

The local store near us uses painted boards (about 50 of them) , what then with the "mat" change

Time to get some stickers for my tokens.

And it won't always be the big asteroid. I bet a lot of Large ship users are going to be bringing small tokens.

 ... That was not my plan at all........

But I guess I'll need to go re-read the Debris rules, I never actually played with them... call me a traditionalist.

Another point on that -- just because you bring it doesn't mean you get to place it. It's put into the obstacle pool, so the other player might end up placing it instead of you. Of course, bringing a bunch of big tokens does increase your chances of placing some of those tokens.

The way I read it, each player brings 3 obstacles. So player A. Could bring big rock, small rock, and big debris and player B. Could bring big rock and 2 small rocks and those will the the 6 obstacles during the game.

I'm excited to bring a bunch of debris clouds and fielding Dash, Tycho, and Porkins. ;)

(okay, not really, but I am excited that Debris clouds are finally tourney legal. They add a nice dynamic to the game.)

I'm definitely glad to see this change. It's exactly how I would've introduced it too.

But man, Tycho is getting better and better as this game evolves!

Can someone actually clarify how Debris Fields work?

When does the stress go on? Right after making the move but before Perform Action step? (Meaning that if you go through you still miss your action?)

You can fire while on a debris field right?

And it grants +1 defense die when being attacked?

Don't forget Keyan.

Or Eaden. Between interceptors getting bumped, R3-A2 becoming super common, and now stress patches? He may just become the cheapest 3 dice turret in the game...

Yup so with 100 point pick 3 obstacle tokens to go with it.

Still satellite tokens are not allowed even as regular obstacles. \ /

But honestly, more than any particular synergies or strategies, I'm just excited for the variety. By far, the most boring part of X-wing, is the same old bland map.

There's a number of people I game with who aren't interested simply because the terrain is so boring, and this is a step in the right direction!

Yeah, lose your action though.

So Phantoms have been somewhat reduced in power. Now the inclusion of the comparatively large stress inducing obstacles is a slight backdoor nerd to heavily action dependent ships like Fel and Vader. The (gentle) blunting of the high PS bid continues.

Why were the debris cloud rules not included with the FAQ? Is there an official document (the screenshot does help) that lists the debris cloud rules so that someone without a debris cloud can at least look up the rules for debris clouds?
