Oh my gosh I hereby nominate this as the best post of the year. Seriously. I cannot hit the like button enough.
Well played, CaseyM, well played.
Awesome. AWESOME! My local meta had devolved into endless phantoms and turrets. This is a huge step in the right direction. I had nearly given up on the game after it was so thoroughly ruined in Wave IV but now I feel confident in buying Scum and Villainy as my new faction to focus on.
If they do it's going to make my store championship on Saturday interesting. I wonder how many people will be scrambling to change their builds.
Thats my problem, I planned on playing a dual phantom list this Saturday at a store championship

Well, you have until the 15th of April, so you're good. Just don't count on it for regionals.
Me too Knight. I almost gave up on the game. Was going to play my store championship this weekend, and if I still saw a ton of phantoms and turrets was going to call it done. Big props to FFG. They made the phantom a little less powerful, but at the same time retained it as a strong offensive presence, and made it more fun to fly...and to fly against.

these changes don't go into effect until april 15th apparently
so...Luke Skywalker (V.I, R3-A2, EU) w/2 tactician b-wings and a proto-type pilot. Stress the ****** before she re-cloaks and blow her out of the space sky. Happy hunting!
Phantoms will still be a good ship even with the change. What this will effectively stop the arms race for Pilot Skill level. The only thing I think they should have done was waited for the current meta to shake out.
I hope so. I'm tired of having to use VI.
A good change. I like that FFG aren't afraid to upset those who get comfortable with their win buttons lol.

I personally don't think this change was needed. Green dice will fail, they always do. A phantom is a fragile ship with only 2 hull and 2 shields.
But it has massive firepower. It balances out.
Finally, I can start playing X wing again. Sanity has prevailed and a step to dealing with the most Broken ship in the game has been taken. ![]()
WOO HOO!!
So many people saying things without even trying it out...
ya, I can't wait to try it. But I do have a good feeling that it will be fun. The guessing game is the best element of X-wing. And the phantom has all the power and arc dodging it used to.......if you guess right.
I just played 3 Delta Squadron Pilots vs. Soontir Fel, "Whisper" and "Backstabber." I still didn't land a hit on "Whisper" and only did 2 damage to Fel, but I felt like I had a fighting chance. That was a very welcome change. It was a great match!
EDIT: So I really like the new decloaking rules.

ACD interactions with agility remain completely unchanged, only the decloaking has been altered
This does make Echo the better Phantom pilot now. She will still be really hard to figure out where she'll end up. It will give you much better flexibility to block or get out of bad situations.
So Autothrusters made Soontir Fel more popular now nerfing the phantoms practically makes him top pick now
My first thought was that this probably strengthens high PS Navigator Phantoms relative to other options. I'm looking forward to trying that out.

Fel is FAR easier to block than Whisper or Echo under the old rules. Block him, he's got no actions and is not that tough to kill. Try and block Whisper? Ok I'll just decloak a different direction.

The issue is not the green dice, it's the inability to ever get to roll red OR green dice unless you have higher PS, preferably with boost or barrel roll. If you move, Whisper decloaks whichever way she wants and is out of arc, the green dice are never a factor unless you brought a turret.
OMG. The Phantom is still a solid ship. Best ship in the game still? Most likely not, but it is still in the top 5.
Do green dice fail, heck yes. Every other ship in the game feels this. Can the Phantom still arc dodge? Yes, just not a no brainer like it was before. Has it lost its fire power? No, it is still the hardest hitting ship without upgrades in the game. (And if anyone tries to bring up an epic ship I will laugh at you.)
It is still a solid ship. The Whisper list just may not be in the top three at every tournament like the last year. If you doubt me look it up, that list was stupid good and didn't take much skill to win with.

As it should be.
Don't worry, in a couple months Darth Vader will be top pick for Imperials, and the Baron will be second...

This makes Phantoms extraordinary blockers now. Decloak into the path of a squadron, watch everyone bump into you and each other (losing Actions). Then you get to make your move out of the parking lot before shooting starts (a K-Turn could be devastating for the enemy). Add Navigator as your crew and you will have several options of movement to get you into/out of firing arcs.
I really like the change from a "flavor" perspective. It feels like the phantom has a "true" location that's obscured rather than a teleporter. You can guess where it is and be correct. Before, so long as the phantom was higher PS, your guess would always be retroactivly wrong, since the phantom would reveal a "true" location that was always the most favorable option.
Well said. Feels more "realistic" and better in the thematic style. No more, "Oh well you moved there? Well, let me decloak here turn and barrel roll to get a 5 dice target locked shot out of your arch."
