Phantoms just got nerfed, hardcore

also, just started thinking how this might actually be seen as a buff :P

then again, I'm a ******* addict for blocking ships and running IA and now the phantom has become an imperial Keyan (rather than Keyan being a rebel phantom)

Nope.

Interesting change. What I like about it is that now ACD Phantom have to commit without being sure if there will be an opponent in sight or not at the end of its move. The guessing game is back. Phantom players also have to guess now.

Not always. Whisper + VI is going to know if she has a shot after she executes her maneuver, and I suspect Echo will have a pretty good idea even at PS 6. You can always take the cloak action the old-fashioned way.

Of course, but instead of being Cloaked with an Evade or a Focus, now they'll just be cloaked; 4 dice is not that great when you only have 4 health and no way to modify those dice. Which means, guess correctly, because recloaking won't save you.

The thing that would worry me is that the autothrusters won't be enough to stop turrets and with this nerf to phantoms, they might get even more holding ground when we thought they might be pulled down a little.

Turrets were dominate BECAUSE phantoms were so good. A nerf to phantoms should serve to decrease how many turrets we see.

I agree, what i was trying to point out was it might throw the balance over the edge, making the turrets vs phantom matchup more one sided. I don't think many people will stop using their turrets because the reason they take turrets is nerfed.

auto-thrusters were never going to break turrets, they just made interceptors viable (stupid idiotic short-sided half-assed turret rules...)

what might cause us to see less turrets, though

less phantoms --> more swarmy ships --> less turrets --> better X-wing experience

But if people are taking fewer phantoms then a) there is less incentive to take turrets and b) they will be taking other things that can hurt turrets more (like swarms).

I could do with less swarmy ships, i dont really hold them on much higher ground then turrets.

I was thinking along these lines also, I could see a highly customizable scum ship, that can take the cloak action along with other unusual upgrades, like astro and cannon or a mixed bag of upgrade options to go along with the theme that scum does what scum wants ie taking tokens from friend and foe alike.

I'm all for this change. It requires a phantom player to work a little harder. Makes perfect sense now.

For all those who say the Phantom was not overpowered and yelled and screamed at me that I should learn to fight better. I guess FFG thought it was a bit overpowered too.

I think it's very cool and still keeps it balance, just not over the top any more.

First thing I tried - still getting:

Phantoms will still be a good ship even with the change. What this will effectively stop the arms race for Pilot Skill level. The only thing I think they should have done was waited for the current meta to shake out.

I can dig it, was getting bored flying the phantom anyway. Now they just need to "nerf" ordinance. Maybe we'll start seeing phantoms take something other then veteran instincts. There's still enough tools in the box to keep phantoms viable tourney winners thought it will probably make Fel and Vader seem more nasty.

Maybe it's a regional thing - went to the Products section to download the new FAQ and it's still the old one (even though it shows yesterdays date as the last update on the page ) - If I try to DL it from the News section I get an error message from Adobe saying it's not a valid file type.

Being completely out flow at lower PS's is what caused everyone eles to race for the higher Pilot Skills. This is not as critical since the Decloak is not a fail safe for the phantom
