Low quality of Nebulon B paintjob

By Microscop, in Star Wars: Armada

My corvette mini looks ok and the star destroyer is awesome. I am a bit disappointed at the Nebulon B though, and it just doesn't seem like quite the quality I've come to expect from FFG. Mine isn't unpainted, but the two-tone paint scheme is a bit odd. What really sticks out to me is that the proportions are way off. The main hull is TINY compared to the neck and engine. I'm not upset or anything, but I hope this doesn't reflect what future releases are going to be like.

Per Mauser101's request, here is the response from FFG for my parts request.

It does indeed look like this model is indeed incorrectly painted. As a result, we are more than happy to help you with your request and will send the requested replacement at no cost to you.

Thank you for submitting a request; however this is what this model looks like out of the factory and as a result does not need replacement.

Thanks for posting that. Funny, though. I thought the frigate was supposed to look like this...

...not this.

I guess that the factory dictates to FFG how the product should look, or this is a load of hogwash.

totally giving a pass to FFG on this one, great minis for a great price! id pay the same even if they were unpainted!

Very obviously small factory defect, 2 second fix.

Though i can see how those of you who dont paint might be annoyed, my advise is find someone who does. It really could not be a more simple thing.

Replacement request send for all 4 rebel ships...

The rear end of the second Nebulon B also dropped of...

That is easy fix with glue but the paint jobs are lousy!

I was expecting them to look like the one in Mausers pic!

I have two core sets, both feature a horrendous looking Corvette and unwashed and badly painted Nebulon B's.

Sad, especially when combined with the lack of box contents and the $100 price tag. Looks like most retailers had it right selling it for 60-79.

I got my Core Set today. I picked one with a nice and well shaded corvette (some were looking bad too and there was one corvetet with red paint splattered on its side!) Neb was pretty bad as expected. I got some nuln oil shade and gave it a wash, it looks pretty cool now, shading looks very similair to the corvette's which is good becosue tehy look more alike as same factions ships should.

I have to chime in too, the rebel ships are awful. Poorly painted or unpainted in places. This is not a cheap product and I expected better. I will not be purchasing a second core set based on the quality of this one. If the wave 1 expansions are significantly improved, I will be willing to buy in again, but if they are the same quality, I will not. Shame too, as I absolutely love the gameplay.

I received a response to my replacement request...

Due to the bend that your ship is experiencing, we are more than happy to help you with your request and will send the requested replacement at no cost to you.

Of course I already corrected the bend myself, and of course this does not address the primary concern of a badly painted miniature. We'll see what they send along.

Being a mass pro prepainted project the paint quality in my mind is acceptable as a representation of the ships they depict IMO. The gameplay trumps any paint work that may or may not be up to expectation. Besides with a little ink most models look fine.

Yea, both the corvette and nebulon b were horribly painted in my set too! The destroyer was fine though!

Received my replacement for a bent shaft rather than bad paintjob today. New one is not mounted to the base. As you can see I need to cut my nails, and apparently the stateside FFG warehouse received poorly painted frigates from the factory too.

Mine looked better but i notice that the middle section is shaded on your models, it wasnt hsaded at all on mine.

a wash is really all you need to fix the Neb and get it looking fantastic :D

but yeah, FFG really dropped the ball on this one. It's obviously not up to their usual standards (maybe the destroyer got all the attention :P?)

I think the issue is probably that the Vic was assembled then painted while the frigate was painted by different assembly lines then assembled.

The wash lines between the Vic's hull and bridge don't match up, though, so they were probably washed separately too. Just better qc at the end of that line.

Yeah I did a watered down nuln oil wash and they look pretty good now.

Sorry, I'm not a painter and have no desire. I'm sure you are not offering to paint everyone's figures for them.

For me at least I'm got into X-Wing initially for the looks and loved the game. I was hope as much for Armada.

I did nuln oil too but still, you need a paint and a brush for this so it costs aditional 6$ to fix it.

Got two cores. On the Neb B there is a high level Ievel variance in the wash for the subassemblies. One of my Neb Bs is great, te other looks unwashed.

However wen you put the Vic's side by side you can see one is darker than the other as well. We just see it more on the neb as the top is made up of 3(?) sub assemblies, whereas the vic and corvette are one or two. But you can see everything was washed before assembly.

Ah, well. Did as others suggested and got out an old bottle of Devlan (I bought a bunch as gw was discontinuing it but I understand nuln oil to be basically the same). Both ships look a lot better, as expected, after a 1:1 mix of water and wash. I still maintain we shouldn't have to paint our pre painted minis, though.

Yea, I submitted a ticket asking how I would exchange the exceptionally low quality nebulon and corvette for ones of higher quality, and they just closed the request ticket...

Not impressed, especially for such a high price, I think they need to reevaluate their quality control.

Somebody should start an online petition , to get them to finish the missing paintjobs.

100 dollars or as they retail here for as high as 120 euros (one store even asks 130!)

is extremely pricey , and just a ripoff if you get half your ship unpainted like on the nebulon b

They aren't unpainted. They just are not shaded in the manner most would prefer.

The one half of the ship is not shaded at all, just one big even white coating .

That to me qualifies as having one half of the ship unpainted.

If the paint jobs could be that awesome as i have seen for several Xwing ships,

including the contents of the base set , they could have done the same for Armada,

especially considering the crazy expensive price tag.

I would very much like the chance to return my Nebulon B and have the back half painted .

I wonder if I wait they'll fix the problem. They fixed the Lambda wings in later releases...
