Low quality of Nebulon B paintjob

By Microscop, in Star Wars: Armada

About two months ago, at a local Barnes & Noble, they had three TIE Bombers; one was noticeably more blue than the other two. And even those two were very slightly more blue than the other Imperial fighters they had.

Yeah, unfortunately the TIEs are a bit all over the place, from a pale blueish-grey to a deep blueish-grey. I have a TIE Advanced and TIE Fighter that are nearly white.

We have a family business and got 20 in stock. (non sold yet as its a new line for us). But I noticed that out of the 9 I removed from the boxes to put on the shelves they all have the unwashed paint job. So when my dad is back I'll ask him to contact his suppliers to see what can be done.

Same problem in all the Nebs I've seen - no wash on back end. Not a huge deal, I inked mine and it looks fine now. However, I did notice the back end is a bit wonky: if you look down the length of the ship the engine block is slightly twisted. Might try the dipping it in hot water approach to see if I can twist it back into shape.

I went to a local store to purchase an FFG mat (they had it marked up $10 over retail price so I passed) and took a look at the core sets there. They all are unpainted.

I inked one of my frigates last night and am quite pleased with the result. I'll try to post a pic later, with the other starter set frigate we got for reference.

I am repainting my Nebulon top to bottom. On a side note I did have a Victory with a bad wash job.

Resident broken record checking in: Report, report, report...

I took a look at our core sets at my FLGS... many of the Nebulons were missing wash on the engine housing.

It's nothing a wash can't handle honestly. Get some black paint, dilute it with water, and run it over the block. Done.

If it just needs a wash, I'm totally cool.

If it is missing ENTIRE sections of white or coloured paint, then I have a serious problem. :|

Sorry it does bother me a little bit. I got into X-Wing because it was pre-painted and won't get into another game I need to paint. A half painted ship, wash or not, just isn't for me. That's all.

The exception being Imperial Assault but I'm stopping at Wave 1 anyway.

I get this annoying for guys that don't paint, but seriously, guys, washes are literally the easiest thing in the world to do and look amazing.

I'm an avid painter, and I didn't notice anything out of sorts with my Nebulon B... but then again, I may repaint mine anyway because reasons.

I'll have a closer look when I am at home today...

I agree, except... these are billed and priced as "pre-painted." So if you don't mind paying for a service that you arn't getting, have I got some stuff to sell you. Jokes asside, maybe they should just go the way of Dust tabletop game. They have two options when buying their minis. Pre-primed / decaled or fully painted. I don't know the exact numbers, but the painted stuff is like doubleish the msrp of the primed versions. Just a thought, especially as these models are so much more expensive than XWing models.

I just opened my box received from miniature market. Engine housing is washed, but not nearly enough. Looks unwashed from a few feet away. Corvette could have used a slightly heavier wash. Vic is on par with current X-wing model paintjobs.

There is, as you can see, a very slight bend in the truss between the forward and aft sections of the frigate. Some water warmed up in the microwave should fix this just like people do when dealing with bent resin miniatures. Paintjob easily fixable with a wash but I think the frigate will be better served with a complete repaint.

I'm not upset but a little let down for the price. Seems like a rush job on these two minis.

I have 2 core sets. One the Corvette looked great, the other it wasn't washed at all, just bland white. So I used a dark grey wash and it looks fine now. Both frigates needed the engine section washed with the same dark grey.

My two core sets arrived today. The paint job in the rebel ships are very bad! These should be pre painted?

I dont know if im going to get any of the wave one ships if the painting quality is as low as the ships from core set!

Also one of my Nebulons rear section dropped to floor when I took it out from the package, it wasnt even glued!

(that is a easy fix, but still...)

Corvette models were ok(ish).

Star destroyers better than ok, but I still expected better quality...

Yours actually doesn't look painted.

Contact FFG for a replacement.

One of mine didn't have any wash on the rear part at all. The other one was o.k. but still looks better now, with some extra wash.

Was this for me?

Anywho, I was going to contact them tomorrow. I can paint these myself, but I paid for painted ships.

If I show these to my group members they wont pay 44 euros for Victory or that Assault Frigate! (that is the price here in Finland for those two ships, i know I can order them for far less from UK or from Germany)

I sincerely hope wave 1 & 2 paint jobs will be a lot better than these...

Well, I got that out of my system... now I need to learn to play this...also have to buy a nice mousepad gaming mat for this.

Anyone contacted FFG regarding unpainted or poorly painted models? What has their response been? I assume they'll send a new ship out, but do they want the old one back (seems like a large expense). Only information I've heard is when people have bent/broken models, they get replaced quickly (again unsure if they bother asking for the original model to be shipped back).

I sent in a replacement request for my copy's CR 90 and Nebulon B Frigate. My CR 90 looks like Mauser101's with no wash visible at all. They are sending me a replacement model. My Nebulon B Frigate also has no wash on the engine section, but FFG said that was how they came from the factory, so no replacement is forthcoming.

I unboxed my copy with a gamer friend "supervising", and both our impressions of the ships in Armada Core were WOW! to the Victory SD paint job, and What Happened! with the CR 90 and Nebulon B.

I have about $400.00 worth of X-Wing models, and they all look fantastic. I was expecting the same quality from Armada. Alas, my copy of the Armada CR 90 and Neb B... not so much.

Of course, being the Star Wars junkie I am, I have pre-ordered one copy of each of the wave one expansions. Here's hoping those have better paint jobs.

Almost seems like false advertising as /all/ of their photos show a different quality product. Or maybe they mean, they would send you a replacement, except all the extras they have are also unwashed... Still, they're selling a fully painted product, not a partially painted one. That's kind of disappointing. I would honestly expect them to pay someone to sit down and correct all their stock, if that's indeed all they have. Gives me the impression that any mass, factory level screw up, is not going to be corrected by FFG. ISD only half cast? Sorry, that's how they came from the factory, deal with it. Pretty bad business practice.

Some people managed to get Nebulons with wash on teh back, it looks quite good.

That seems like a shady way to pass the buck on something that ultimately IS there responsibility and not to be scapegoated onto the third party they contracted to pour the plastic.

Please post the email chain as, if this is truly their stance on this shoddy workmanship, the community should know about it.

Edit: I just put in a request for a replacement frigate. Will keep the thread appraised of the response.

I take it that none of you bought the orginal printing of X-Wing.

That impression is not at all reasonable given the fact that they are re-issuing the one posters Corvette for lack of washing.

Yup, I didn't buy XWing off the boat, I was late to the party. I've only seen the recent releases of XWing models, which all look very nice. So FFG has already set my expectation levels in regards to the quality they can produce and the level of QC they have over the products they release to the store.

Should I need to reset my expectations for every new IP they release? But honestly, is a second pre-painted Star Wars spaceship miniatures game really a new IP? That actually worked to raise my expectations for Armada, especially for the price point. The point is still valid, they advertised a product which they did not deliver. To that end, why would they replace one model with a bad paint job but not the other?

Makes me nervous about the approaching Wave1 minis. Should I expect the same quality out of the Neb-b blister? Should I expect a markdown of the Neb-b blister price? I mean, they've admitted that such a huge percentage of these were only half painted that the company elects to not send out replacements.

These are all just questions, I'm not angry at or challenging anyone on the forums. Constructive discussion. At the end of the day, it's just a $100 boardgame, it's not the end of the world. Your mileage may vary.
