New Epic Play Tournament Rules are up.

It makes sense to me too... I mean the Huge Ships are firing at long range with their heavy weapons.

So the farther away a target is the better the chances to hit becomes. It is what snipers do all the time... you know.

:)

The playmate rule being in the Epic tourney FAQ irritates me even more than it being in the regular FAQ. FFG doesn't make a 3x6, to my knowledge. So were supposed to put two of their mats that don't have corners next to each other and hope they don't slide?

wait does R4 R5 = R3?? or plus two total dice?

Anything range 3 or beyond nets 1 extra green die.

oh gods. im not sure i like that. would have liked two dice for R4 R5.

Hmmm, would this change make Single Turbolasers way overcosted?

edit: probably not, as their targets would mainly be the larger, less agile ships anyway. Decimators, Shuttles, other Epic Ships etc will still feel the pain from them.

So on the X-wing support page, the FAQ, tournament rules, and Epic tournament rules all show as updated today. The FAQ and regular tourney rules still link to their old versions, but the Epic rules are new.

There's only one real change, but it's an interesting one:

Errata: If a ship attacks at Range 3 or beyond with its primary weapon, the defender rolls one additional defense die during the “Roll Defense Dice” step of combat.

And it appears this is only for epic tournament play. The regular rules for huge ships in the FAQ haven't changed. So I'm assuming that for mission play, they think the range modifiers are still balanced?

I have good news for you! They don't slide! :D We've been playing Epic on two of the HCD mats put together for awhile now and last night played our first armada game on the new FFG ones placed together. No problems. Not a single one. In fact I think the size of the corners rounding is smaller on FFG's version, though the mat itself is thinner but that didn't seem to affect anything. I was more worried about the logo in the corner but it turns out to not be an issue since it's not really bright enough. And at the end of the day complaining about a logo or even picture on your mat would be like a basket ball or football player complaining about sponsor logo on their court or field. Let's man up on that one at the least. :P And if at least half the player base buys a mat, a TO should have no problem coming up with enough for a tourney if he borrows, inspects for legality/consistency, then supplies to tables mats, and seats randomly. So I' dont really see that as an issue either, hell I have two to loan ours right now, that seats me and three others.

As for the change to defense at range? Weird. Don't know if it's good or bad, but Ill take it. It'll stop the stupidity of my all phantom epic list if nothing else.
