Is Battlestar Galactica : Blood and Chrome worth watching?

By Kilofix, in X-Wing Off-Topic

I haven't actually seen any of the new BSG.

Is BSG : Blood and Chrome worth watching, and something I can start with (as opposed to the main series)?

I've read reviews elsewhere but I wanted to get the X-Wing community's take on it.

Also, on that topic, any other series / movies worth watching with good space dogfights?

Thanks for the opinions.

Great that you ask!

The answer is: No. Watch the show and the miniseries; they are excellent. I'd consider Razor optional. The Plan, and Blood and Chrome left a bad taste in my mouth.

I thought Razor was pretty **** good.

Blood & Chrome was decent for what it was. I don't think it would make much sense without watching the series first though.

Caprica being cancelled just when it was finally getting good is the real travesty.

It was okay I've seen much worse tie ins like the last Babylon five movie, now that was terrible.

You have to see the series first or it won't make sense. I loved the series and watched the others. But none were as good as the series. Worth seeing in my opinion. But don't expect the same level.

Go watch the Original series (again). 1980's Cylons have all the chrome you could wish for. :D

B&C was not bad, certainly better than most things they stick on Syfy or other networks.

Watched Episode 1 of the 2004 series. Pretty good so far. I Iike the 'beat up' look of the ships (like the original SW Trilogy as opposed to the prequels) and the use of semi-archaic (for the setting) equipment. Like analog wall clocks, toggle switches, and bulky telephone handsets.

Moving on through the series.

I watched Blood and Chrome last night funnily enough and I very much enjoyed it. It has really made me want to watch the series again! but it is a pretty big commitment plus there are so many other series out there I would like to watch.

Unsure if it is worth watching before the main series, but I take it you went straight in for the series?

I've just finished firefly/serenity and I desperately want more of that :( I watched Farscape before that also....Unsure what my next Sci-fi series should be!

Bsg series 1-3 were great then that last season jumped the shark then nuked the fridge.

It was ok, I watched it having seen the opening two shows, the final show and some bits and pieces of the main show.

It ended ok, the main show ended horribly. Not much space combat, but some.

Blood and Chrome was meh. They should have just put Adama in a viper and had it be nothing but plotless dogfights for two hours. That would have been so great.

I would watch the hell out of that.

Having watched through the series 2-3 times now, I'd rank the seasons this way:

2

4

1

3

Season two is just solid all the way around. Lots of great episodes, and not many clunkers. Season four grew a lot on me on repeated viewings. So much payoff in the show's mythology and lots of great character moments. Plus I LOVE the finale, the last couple minutes weren't really necessary, but the rest is great. Season one is a solid season, but seems a bit simpler after repeated viewings. Season 3 was always my least favorite. The new caprice arc is possibly the best arc of the show, and the last few episodes of the season are great as well, but there's a lot of mediocre episodes in the middle of the season.

2134 would be my ranking. 1 and 2 at least still had good dogfighting, 3 much less and 4 was just bleargh.

I liked the mini series, but it went downhill so quickly, no structure, no vision and just make it up on the run. Both Razor and The Plan were just too disjointed to be enjoyable.
