Tri Tie Experiment

By Ezeefisch, in X-Wing Squad Lists

Hi guys,

I'm really just finding my feet with this great game, but I wanted to stretch myself a bit. That said I'd really appreciate the feedback on this list.

"Whisper" (32+14)

Marksmanship (3)

Fire Control System (2)

Advanced Cloaking Device (4)

Gunner (5)

Vader (29+6)

Marksmanship (3)

Stealth Device (3)

Tie/x1 (0)

Fire Control System (0)

"Howlrunner" (18+1)

Veteran Tactics (1)

100pts

I wouldn't take Marksmanship on either of those ships. Having a Focus token that can be used for defense if not used on an attack is going to be a better option for both of those ships. I would give Whisper VI instead, she benefits from moving later and shooting first.

I'd also rather take Advanced Targeting Computer on Vader than FCS. Pushing up the amount of damage he can dish out is more important than getting him a free Target Lock. Stealth Device is something that I might also take a pass on for Vader. He's got enough defense, I would look at giving him a little extra maneuverability.

Howlrunner doesn't really add much to your list since you are unlikely to be flying the other two in formation with her. If you want to keep a high PS TIE, I'd look at Mauler Mithiel instead.

What you have is a pretty decent list but I would probably run something like this:

"Whisper" (32)
Veteran Instincts (1)
Fire-Control System (2)
Gunner (5)
Advanced Cloaking Device (4)
Darth Vader (29)
Predator (3)
Advanced Targeting Computer (1)
Engine Upgrade (4)
TIE/x1 (0)
"Mauler Mithel" (17)
Veteran Instincts (1)
Total: 99
That gives you three ships that shoot at PS9 and comes in at 99 points. If you want to cut a few more points to have a better chance to pick who has initiative, switch out Mauler for Backstabber.

Ah thank you very much, in defense of one of my miscalculations I will say that the only reason I didn't give Vader the ATC was because I didn't think it was available yet (my squad builder app has it as red).

I do appreciate the advice and will incorporate your suggestions to test out tonight ;)

It isn't available yet, but neither is the TIE/X1 title.

Ah good point. With that said, EU for Vader it is then

As a newbie, I'm not following why marksmanship is not recommended??

Marksmanship costs 3 points and fills your EPT slot. What you get in return is an action that is slightly better than a Focus token when attacking but unlike a Focus token it can do nothing for you defensively. You are almost always going to be better off spending those three points on a different EPT. If you are taking Marksmanship to increase the likelihood of getting a crit, you can now take Calculation for a single point that allows you to use a Focus token to turn a single eyeball into a crit. It still gives you the flexibility of the Focus token but will let you get some of the benefit of Marksmanship for two points less.

There are some cases where Marksmanship could be a decent choice. Marksmanship applies to every attack roll you make in a round, so if you are Corran Horn or have Gunner you can use Marksmanship to flip eyeballs to hits on both attacks you make in a round.

Ok, that I can understand. I will give calculation a few runs and see how plays out,
