Squadron Movement: Straight only?

By Rocmistro, in Star Wars: Armada

Question: Can squadrons move in a large circular arc (not to exceed the total of their movement, of course) in order to avoid getting into range 1 of an enemy squadron (and thus being engaged), or do they always have to move in a straight line?

They must start and end their move against the range ruler. So no curves. The game being set at 6 turns does not lend itself to tons of flying about avoiding a fight.

The only thing that matters is where your squadron finishes its movement.

Think of it as teleporting from one spot to another. You don't have to check that distance 1 at every point along your trip, only at the end of the movement.

So if your squadron can move far enough, in a single movement you can pass through that distance 1 bubble completely and avoid being engaged with that squadron, taking the direct route instead of a circular one.

But as Wes said, straight lines. I can't think of many instances where i'd opt for a curved route instead of a direct route that still kept me unengaged.

The only thing that matters is where your squadron finishes its movement.

I think this is kind of a cool mechanic for movement. I can juke my TIEs in one direction, and if your slower ships try to move towards me to lock them down, I can shoot past them.

Thanks guys, for the quick feedback. I don't have the game yet, going to FLGS in about 20 minutes, as they said they would have it later today. Can't wait to play.
