Range Bands for legal obstacle placement?

How do you determine range 1 and range 2 on the map? I want to make sure my missions stay within Obstacle setup rules, as in each object is range 1 from other objects, and range 2 from any given table edge.

Each of the squares on a default grid is one range length, I'm pretty sure. I think i checked a long while back... I sure hope that's right because I've used in in all of my million and a half scenarios...

A good feature in the future would be a range radius effect, sort of like the target lock range checker in vassal, though.

Ahh I thought they were in inches, because the button to get rid of them is labeled "Inches".
