1 Victory expansion, 2 Gladiators, 3 Imperial Fighter packs, 2 Assault frigate IIs, 1 Nebulon-B, 2 CR-90s, 3 Rebel fighter packs.
Wave one plans?
one of everything
!
well, everyone and their dog is playing empire in my area (can't blame them, that Victory is sexy) so I'll be expanding into the rebellion first. I'm leaning towards nebulons because they seem like solid all-rounders and an Assault Frigate because I need something that at least attempts to approximate the awesomeness of the Victory. with several X-wings in tow (they seem incredibly solid all rounders), I'm hoping to have a nice beginner's list that will be able to more or less effectively handle any situation as a jack of all trades before dipping deeper into what this game has to offer.
A few times paired Nebulon-Bs with enhanced armaments have caused me great problems. They outgun me at range, and I can't catch them to deliver my own strike. Initiative for the Imperial player with slow lumbering vessels is key.
Looks like my Gladiator's shipping today from chaos cards, at least according to the order dispatched e-mail and half of the order status page. Of course, the order status page says both "dispatched" and "waiting for stock" so who knows? Though I've never had a faulty order dispatched notice from them before, so I'll update later in the week whether it arrives or not.
I think I might well end up using Gladiators more than Victories, despite the Victory being my favourite Star Destroyer design.
very curious how this resolves itself! hopful that we all will see wave 1 sooner rather than later. (although i didnt anticipate this soon)
One of everything and 2 of the fighter packs each, like you!
super excited to paint up the new fighters!!!! XD i can't even wait for wave 2 either!!!!
The core set is the first thing in my lofe i paid for expedited shipping, i didnt need to i just wanted it that bad. Think im comin down with a dose of unhealthy obbsession. XD
I already have my two core sets, but for wave one I ordered the following from my local store:
1 - Victory Class Star Destroyer
1 - Corellian Corvette
1 - Nebulan B Frigate
2 - Assault Frigates
2 - Gladiator Class Star Destroyers
2 - Rebel Fighter Squadrons
2 - Imperial Fighter Squadrons
I'll admit, I'm an over buyer...but I like having options.

I'm not excited to paint fighters because I can't paint for ****
I'm thinking of just giving them a coat of solid color to imitate blips on a radar or something, since they're so hilariously out of scale anyway ![]()
but don't worry about your obsession, it is a completely normal reaction ![]()
I also ordered one of each, but 2 of the fighter packs. But maybe I will add a second Gladiator, because I plan to "main" Imps.
I'm really intrigued to hear what people are thinking about grabbing from wave one to start with...
For me I suspect I am grabbing one of everything and TWO of each fighter pack, because I am not convinced that just two of each special fighter type is going to cut it...
Interested by the opinions of people who know better than me please!
I'm waffling on a second fighter pack (I'm certainly getting one) since I'll have so many TIE/LN squadrons to screen with (8 counting the core box and the fighter pack), but I am beyond doubt getting another VSD and two Gladiators.
Edited by DeathseedWell fickle, you can really add alot to the fighters with a super basic paint job, they normally wont be seen up close and so detail kind of flies out the window.

My pre-order stands at:
1x Frigate
1x Gladiator
1x Imperial Starfighters
1x Rebel Starfighters
1x Dice set
Get this and never worry about dice for FFG's Star Wars games again.
On top of the core, eventually:
Victory: 1 (2)
Gladiator: 2 (2)
Imperial pack : 2 (22 fighters)
Assault Frigate: 2 (2)
Nebulon-B: 1 (2)
CR-90: 2 (3)
Rebel fighter pack: 2 (20 fighters)
I'll have to play with the Gladiators to see if it's worth a third, but I can easily imagine 2 VSDs and 2 Gladiators forming the core of a very good Wave 1 force, combined with a fighter selection for protection. But at the 300 cap, I might have to drop one of those capital ships in which case, a Victory lead with flanking Gladiators.
For the rebels I'm always going to be nervous without running Assault Frigates. I was surprised how much the Nebulons in my first proper 300 point game survived Victory attacks but I'm not going to feel safe standing up to the heavier empire ships without something to stand and deliver on equal terms.
I have more closely inspected the Rebel Assault Frigate. I think its a must have option. I think most people are drooling over the Star Destroyers because of fandom. But I think these assault frigates - (which are not really frigates- they are as deadly as a Victory) are going to wreck the playing mat with a good compliment of squadrons.
The Gallant Haven nullifies any single die attack on friendly squadrons in close vicinity. And the Paragon can be upgraded into a broadsides brawler that any Imperial Ship will not want to be in range of. And they nearly have the maneuverability of a Nebulon, and faster than a SD to get in such a position. At long range (and medium and short range), the Paragon is rolling a black die on every attack - before any weapons upgrade (as long as its a ship that has already been attacked that round for the black die). So, at long range, you could get three red die and a black die with that one caveat. And medium range you add a blue die. That's more firepower, without upgrades, than the front arc of a standard Victory class. Stay outside of of close range of the of the Victory I and you can outgun it.
But I am already set on
2x Frig
1x Corvette (for commander card)
1x Fighters
(something close to 3 frigs, Hero B-Wing, Y-Wing, 2x X-Wing in escort)
That's all I need for the fleet I want to try. If it miserably or repeatedly fails, then I'll readjust. I am guessing it will, and I will be deploying an assault frigate eventually. Tournaments requires one to keep the same fleet for each game right? In any case, I don't see myself drastically changing strategy from one game to the next and if my local club even hosts games - I am unsure if they will even do two full length ones in one night.
It seems everyone on empire wants to run the points on Vics. So - I want to try to do something completely different, many fast moving frigates for objectives and points - they only need to take down one vic and lose a ship and still win on points. I believe the Imperial player will not achieve many objectives relying on lumbering Vics.
Edited by wjgoOn top of two of the core sets ive split with a friend our preorder is as such.
Gladiator: 1
Imperial pack : 1
Dice pack 1
Assault Frigate: 1
Nebulon-B: 1
CR-90: 1
Rebel fighter pack: 2
Was just looking at preorder prices, and to get one of everything plus a dice pack it costs like $140! That's quite a buy in price, and that's even cheaper because it's a preorder! I currently have one core set, what do you guys think is the bare minimum I can get to give both sides a fair chance? I don't want a situation like when I started with x wing and had an imbalance between sides for months at a time as I saved up for expansions....
I definatley am getting those fighter packs though, great value.
Edited by AdmiralThrawnI'm planning on just buying Rebels. I will get the regular Star Destroyer however....once it releases. Because Star Destroyer.
All of it and then some. 2 Core plus 1 VSD, 2 GSD, 1 Neb, 1 CR90, 1 MK11. 2 of each squad.
