A regional bye is on eBay

By The Imperial Rebel, in X-Wing

A regional bye was recently placed on eBay. Not by a store this year but by someone who won a SC. "My name was removed as best I could manage from the back of the card" is in the description so he has to know it's not allowed by FFG (unless someone just wants the card). I really hope that there are no bids on this item. Wouldn't want to reward the seller or potential buyer for breaking the rules FFG has set.

well, you did just advertise it...

Lame.

Plot twist: It's his listing on eBay! :o

Sportsmanship? Good taste?

I'd rather just beat my opponent in that first round.

Of course, I won't be playing, as the local regional was somehow set for Father's Day.

won't work as the bye is recordered by the store and sent into ffg. when the bye number and name don't match they'll be dqed

Not sure about regional byes anyway. Isn't it just an auto win but only 150mov?

Our local store champ said he isn't even going to use his.

Would rather get another game in and try and get max points.

As for the seller. Maybe he's in the same boat and just figures someone wants it for bragging rights?

They're supposed to be non-transferable. Report this to FFG, they can have it taken down. They do the same thing with prize kits when need be, because they aren't supposed to be sold.

Its a full win/full MoV. You want to use it. It also gives you time to set up for the rounds to come, get some food, and watch some of the other players. Trust me, by the end of the day (12+ hours if you make the cut) missing that first game really is beneficial to your sanity.

This. Winners' names are reported.

Just put in bids in excess of $100,000

Then don't pay

The ability to win round one with 150 MOV is insignificant next to the power of the force.

I plan on eating beans and cabbage the day before regionals, see if I can distract my opponents with chemical warfare !!!!!

you thought tauntauns smelled bad..............

Regional Byes should be worth full possible MoV and SoS.

This is what is considered a 'super bye', which is full MoV and full SoS as compared to a normal bye one gets by being in last place in an event with an odd number of participants.

This bye is definitely worth using if you have it when you go to play in your Regional event.

I would not think it is worth buying one, however... honestly, if you are in a situation where you need to buy one, it is a little unlikely you are going to be able to take advantage of the purchase anyway.

How exactly do you expect this to go down?

First, store are not obligated to actually report the event. FFG asks them to, but it's not as if there is any consequences to not doing so. Second, only the winner is asked for on the report. Since Byes get passed down if a player already has them the winner of the event and person who received the Bye are not always the same person. Lastly, FFG doesn't provide a list of SC winners to Regional venues.

You'd think that's how FFG would run things but thier OP program is hilariously unorganized in many regards.

Please tell me the exact line where this is written in the tournament rules, faq, etc.

I was in this position last year and I got a "bad" bye, which in a swiss-only tournament lost me valuable points. I would not use one of these byes again unless someone confirms that it's a 200pt win. The TO can't take my word for it, if it doesn't say so in the official rules it's a bad bye.

It's in the rules insert that comes with the Regional kit. At the very least I know it is for other FFG games.

It's the same insert that tells the store how many rounds to run and how to distribute prizing.

Maybe he had one made from that bot that keeps posting about fake passports and documents?
