A regional bye is on eBay

By The Imperial Rebel, in X-Wing

This is what is considered a 'super bye', which is full MoV and full SoS as compared to a normal bye one gets by being in last place in an event with an odd number of participants.

This bye is definitely worth using if you have it when you go to play in your Regional event.

I would not think it is worth buying one, however... honestly, if you are in a situation where you need to buy one, it is a little unlikely you are going to be able to take advantage of the purchase anyway.

Please tell me the exact line where this is written in the tournament rules, faq, etc.

I was in this position last year and I got a "bad" bye, which in a swiss-only tournament lost me valuable points. I would not use one of these byes again unless someone confirms that it's a 200pt win. The TO can't take my word for it, if it doesn't say so in the official rules it's a bad bye.

I haven't seen what the tourney kits say, but all I know is that at last year's regionals at the FFG Event Center that the people in my playgroup that had earned a store championship bye received a "super bye" as mentioned above. Maybe your TO had good reason, but it sounds like at least two mistakes were made there: Regionals shouldn't be a Swiss-only and you should have had a "Super" bye.

A bad bye under the SoS system (last year's regionals), especially in a Swiss only tournament, is definitely not an advantage (and would traditionally have gone to the lowest ranked player after a round).

I HOPE ITS A SUPER BYE, OR I WASTED MY TIME DRIVING 3 HOURS TO THE STORE CHAMPIONSHIP THAT I WON, AND ITS ANOTHER 3 HOUR DRIVE TO THE REGIONALS IN THE OTHER DIRECTION.

I HOPE YOU FIND THE CAPSLOCK AND DISABLE IT.

Edit: buh.

I'd rather just beat my opponent in that first round.

Of course, I won't be playing, as the local regional was somehow set for Father's Day.

Or maybe you drove somewhere to play a bunch of cool X-Wing games and win neat stuff at the Store Championship level, and maybe you can just hope to do the same when you drive in the other direction, but getting to play with and enjoy the hobby with a different group of people?

I'm hoping they put this directly into the software they are releasing for regionals. FFG had all sorts of problems with the first round super-bye at worlds even. Doing the super-bye by hand is not a position you want to be in as a TO. Regionals in general by hand would be a nightmare. God I hope their software doesn't suck.

@Critias,

true, true

focus on what matters and the rest will be what it is, didn't mean to make it sound like I did it just for the win. I had no expectation of even making the finals, the previous 2-3 tournaments I went to I didn't do well at all. and I was hyped up, built my list 10 times over each time and stressed about it. the store championship I was late, through a list together and was talking to a friend who came to watch me play most of the time, whom I hadn't seen in many years. it was a great day with a really cool ending.

so your point is spot on

Aww hell. You just crapped on my heart. There's the one in Vancouver too. And Vancouver BC, but those fools scheduled it on the 4th of July.

That was probably done on purpose to keep the **** filthy Americans from swarming across the border in an attempt to steal a regional victory from the Canadians that it should belong to.
