I don't think you will see 2 day Armada tournaments because they will most likely be timed and have a forced stop of two hours. That's they way it is with 40k tournaments and it allows completion in a single day. Will it be a 14 hour day? probably but that just adds to the fun! As to not having a 3x6 space at home that seems unlikely to me. Mu house is only 1200sq feet and my wife and I have plenty of room on our dining room to play.

If it takes a full day to do a 16 person X-Wing tournament with 1 hour rounds... You just can't get as many games in with a 2 hour per game round.

Most people could maybe find space for a 3x6 table, but most won't have a surface that size, which is the point.
I don't doubt that Armada will do well and be a great game, but becoming more popular then X-Wing? No I can't see that happening.
Edited by VanorDMI watched a demo yesterday and 6 turns took about 45 minutes, that's with the learning scenario if that helps any.
ive never played x-wing and fell out from WHFB years ago. this one immediately sparked my attention and after some thought realized the price point isnt bad for what your getting. me and a friend pre-ordered the next day. core and each w1 expansion. i dont think the price point is absurd when you look at other games and repayment in time spent. 20 bucks for a movie that lasts 2 hours... or 100 bucks for 5 games of armada.after that its a solid investment of the core IMO. same for video games. if i spend more than 6 hours on a relase date console/pc game im not raging about the cost.
thats my take on entertainment value at least.
Price point, playtime, and playspace all add up to this game not attaining the popularity of X-Wing for me. The notion that it probably won't work as a competitive game makes me uninterested in even investing in it. I get tons of play out of my X-Wing stuff already. No need to spend on something that might not work out. I'm not too excited about painting tiny starfighters either.

Well X-Wing will still be the more popular game for no other reason than Armada is more a thinking mans game than X-wing which is a more in the moment game. Similar to the difference between 40K and WHFB (up till now) where 40K is more accessible to the general public and gets more attention.
Armada will be similar where players will most likely be more into the fluff, objective oriented missions and more relaxed approach at the game. X-Wing has become very competitive in nature where I see Armada being balanced enough for tournament play but players won't be as concerned about the win as they are about having Fun.
Price point is a no Argument for me because X-Wing gets expensive fast when you think about it. Can you just own a couple of Tie Fighters and a Interceptors, sure. But everyone I know owns just about all the Models with multiples of most of them. It is the nature of us gamers, we buy to have more options and to collect, we don't just get what we need. That would be silly. ![]()
It is an expensive game, but not expensive for a miniature game. Minimum cost for just the Imperial faction is about $100(for starter set) + $40 + 30 (for one of each ship expansion) + $20 (For the fighters). That is a total of $190. That may sound expensive, but for getting a fully playable faction in a miniature game it really isn't that bad.
Miniature games are more expensive than other kinds of games, but they are totally cooler.
I would imagine the majority of those interested in this game already play X Wing at least.
I think this is currently true as people who play swing are both invested in the subject matter and have a higher chance of getting news about ffg products than those who don't play any ffg game. Over time however it will attract new people so that ratio of swing players over others will drop.
TLDR: Xwing players are probably the most interested now, who knows in the future.
