Captain Yorr´s official AAR or another Epic Battle Report

By Niinivaara, in X-Wing Battle Reports

We had another Team Epic two weeks ago, here´s Captain Yorr´s report (with some flight computer snapshots).

To:

Commander of ISD Courageous

Reporting Officer (rank, name, position):

Captain Yorr, ECM Group Leader

Subject:

After Action Report

Units:

Battle Group Jendon (colonel Jendon)

Two Lambda Shuttles

Flight of four Gamma Squadron TIE/sa

Battle Group Vessery (colonel Vessery)

One TIE/D

Two TIE/IN (Royal Guard)

Flight of five Black TIE/LN

Mission:

To intercept Rebel convoys in Aikon sector (successful)

Brief description of events:

The Battle Group was alerted by fleet command to intercept a Rebel CR-90 class corvette which was navigating through an asteroid field too dense for Star Destroyers. The enemy corvette was escorted by a mixed group of fighters and accompanied by some light freighter types indicating a Rebel supply convoy.

Black Squadron prepares to engage Rebel fighters as bombers close in for the Alfa Strike

When we prepared to engage, col Jendon´s shuttle provided more detailed picture of the enemy. CR-90 was not recognized, but there were two YT-1300 light freighters and one of them was identified as Millenium Falcon, a pirate vessel of wanted renegade lt Solo. Total of three heavy B-wing fighters and one fighter of unknown type were escorting. There was also one civilian yacht, apparently unarmed and transporting Rebel dignitaries.

Missiles away! CR-90 fore is crippled, and Keyan meets his doom on the left.

I provided ECM support for col Jendon and bomber flight led by capt Jonus. Our group was tasked to take out the corvette while col Vessery´s fighters were engaging other enemy ships. We had to engage the corvette starboard bow side, which while being far from the optimal position to attack, enabled us to concentrate maximum firepower on the weapon systems and the helm. We closed the distance fast to give the corvette´s turbolasers less time to fire our bombers. One of the YT´s tried to intercept the bombers but was forced to evade as it was torpedoed. Col Jendon´s shuttle provided valuable assistance to bombers, using the powerful sensors to lock the targets. We fired one homing missile, two proton torpedoes and one cluster missile on the corvette, and Jendon supported wtih his HLC. The missile salvo hit the corvette´s fore, and caused so many secondaries that I directed my own Laser Cannon at the yacht, estimating that the corvette was already heavily damaged.

Evasive action! Yorr is helping out others, but clearing that stress will take some time. And a bomber is down.

P1000097.JPG

Col Jendon is down but so are the Rebels. Jan Ors dies from the Seismic.

We broke the formation to avoid collision, but lost one bomber to the corvette´s close defence weapons and soon after capt Jonus´ bomber was destroyed by B-wings. The Black Squadron had been unable to destroy B-wings fast enough as they had to face the unknown fighter. To our left, col Vessery and Royal Guards destroyed a B-Wing and forced the other YT to evade. The Blacks and the remaining bombers quickly took out the B-Wings and Millenium Falcon. Unfortunately that new fighter and YT were able to destroy col Jendon´s shuttle before Vessery and Royal Guards destroyed the prototype fighter.

Chewie, don´t bring a cargo ship to a space battle, it will...

...BLOW!!!

P1000108.JPG

E-Wing is no match to superior Imperial fighters.

The corvette was able to destroy one of the Royal Guards and one of the Blacks even when crippled, but when we managed to destroy the remaining YT col Vessery ordered all vessels to concentrate fire on the aft of the corvette. We quickly destroyed it thus completing our mission.

Mopping up. Lando makes his last gamble...

...and finally CR-90 is destroyed by well-orchestrated Imperial action. Victory!

Total losses:

1 Lambda class shuttle

2 TIE Bombers

1 TIE Interceptor

3 TIE Fighters

Observations on enemy tactics, equipment and capabilities:

The Rebel forces were composed in their usual habit of mixing different types of vessels, apparently due to lack of proper organization and equipment. This time they didn´t have enough space superiority/interceptor type fighters to escort their heavier vessels, and they tried to compensate this by using heavy assault fighters, namely B-Wings in that role. The B-Wing is a formidable opponent in its intended role, but as an escort its slow speed puts it in disadvantage which could be easily exploited by our superior fighters.

We observed some kind of new prototype fighter which had quite advanced stealth features and fairly high speed. In a close range fight it was no match to our Interceptors and the new Defender, but in large numbers it could pose a threath, especially to standard TIEs. That fighter´s firepower was strong enough to damage even our heavily shielded Lambdas.

Lessons Learned and Recommendations:

The additional armor plating in TIE/ln fighters was highly valued by Black Squadron pilots. It made the fighters more resilient to enemy fire while causing little or no impact on manouverability of the crafts. It should be tested more.

The bombers are very effective to engage and destroy enemy capital ships. But their lack of shielding requires some electronical support (jamming, decoys) to reduce the impact of the defensive fire. Also good C4I systems are needed to enable a quick and decisive strike. A Lambda class shuttle is a good ship type to provide both functions through effectice ECM and command systems. The passenger/cargo area in the shuttle can be easily modified to allow more systems and personnel onboard. The advanced command systems tested by late captain Jonus gave good initial impression during training, but their combat performance cannot be confirmed.

Other:

I must inform that Colonel Vessery seems to be very stressed, and his behavior in action is risky and excessively dangerous to friendlies. His fire discipline and target selection are clearly lacking the usual calmness of Imperial Navy. A short relief from command should be taken in the consideration to help him overcome the situation. Colonel Vessery is normally an exemplary commander and very talented pilot.

Sir, this concludes my report.

And the lists (as far as I can remember, some upgrades missing):

2 x Gamma (Proton Torpedo, Cluster Missile, Seismic)

Gamma (Proton Torpedo, Assault Missile, Seismic)

Imperial 2:

Vessery (HLC, Ruthlessness)

2 x RG (SU, AT, PTL)

Backstabber (HU)

Dark Curse (HU)

3 x Black (VI, HU)

Rebel 1:

CR-90 Fore (Han Solo, Backup Shield Generator, Turbolaser, Quad-laser)

CR-90 Aft (Quad-laser, Tibanna, Weapons Engineer, all teams somewhere in the ship)

Jan Ors (Decoy) [THE most annoying thing with the corvette]

Keyan Farlander

Rebel 2:

Chewbacca

Lando

Etahn (R2-D2, SD)

2 x Dagger

Looks like fun!

If I were the Rebels, I would've flown the CR-90 straight at the Tie Bombers. It's hard to get within range, get the TL and then stay at R2. Also, it gets hard to not be run over by the CR-90! I usually see them get in...get the TL...and then need to bug out as they are too close.

Also, the Rebels should've dropped the YT's and gotten generic X-wings. They are faster than the B-wings and can zip around the larger board better. They take longer to destroy and can dish out more fire power, as well.

Thanks for taking the time! I had fun reading it.

Well, our Rebels had exactly the same thoughts after the game :D

That´s one thing I like in the Epic games, some of the nearly unused ships/pilots really shine when there´s a real battle, not just some strange two-on-two deathmatch.

And thanks for the feedback!

Nice work, more please...

I love the reportage style. Thanks!
