I have a decent amount of stuff, all in a Plano 732 (I believe) tackle box, its a bit much to lug around the entire day, so what would you suggest? I take my box or just the squad I intend to field?
taking stuff to regionals
If you know what you're flying, just bring your squad in a smaller box. Maybe have the rest of your stuff in your (locked) car, in case you wanna play some casual games (provided there's enough space and you're done with the tourney)
Go to Panera Bread and get a cardboard tray. Use that to move stuff around all day. It's free.

I got a cookie sheet at Walmart for a dollar, a pill organizer for my tokens, a cheap plastic deck box, and a small plastic box with a lid (maybe 2/3rd the size of a shoe box, the length of the box is about the same as the width of the cookie sheet, it takes up about a third of the cookie sheet) to carry around just the stuff I need at tournaments.
Edited by WWHSDI have built a "tournament kit" out of a loot crate box. (the batcave one)
it fits everything I need...all the templates and tokens and ships.
fits nicely in a messenger bag with a couple of cliff bars and drinks.
I use a small 2 sided bead box for my tokens...acrylics on one side and FFG ones on the other side...in case my opponent refuses to let me use acrylics.
and this tray:

For store championships (my first X-Wing tourney), I just took one tray of my Plano that had everything I needed in it -- my ships, tokens, dice, rocks, templates, damage deck, everything -- and I was good to go. No need to lug around your whole case, in my opinion, just set aside the stuff you'll need.
You know the keyboard tray that fits under the desktop on some computer desks? Well, I had an old one fall off before I chucked the desk. I kept it. I'm thinking I can glue on some velcro onto it. I can glue some velcro on some card sleeves. I can then attach all the cards and upgrades to it. This will allow me to carry around the tray and use it all set up. I can just carry the tray from game to game. I just grabbed a decent sized cardboard box from some junk pile at work that I can throw my dice and templates in between games. I can probably glue a tray of some sort for the dice to make that easier.
Just take what you need for the following reasons:
1. Regionals is going to be big so you will move around A LOT.
2. Easier to keep track of tokens (only bring enough to field your list). Less likely to lose stuff.
3. Less opportunity for theft. Not saying it would happen, but you wouldn't lose your entire fleet.
4. Makes your other ships at home jealous. Cause you know they come alive when you're not around.
I personally use a Sterilite Ruler box for my squad. It fits everything you need for a 100pt squad and i have a smaller plastic case to seperate my tokens.
It's one of the few cases I've seen that fits the range ruler with out being to bulky.
For my local games, I bring my whole collection, but pack the squad I plan to play in one or two of the smaller Planos, and leave the rest in the trunk. I also have a plastic drainer tray to move my already set up squad between tables. Doesn't have to be a drainer tray, of course. Any kind of plastic tray will do.
That's how I plan to take my stuff to regionals.
Edited by Koing907I have the same case and keep one of my trays mostly clear and use it to transport stuff in tournaments. Works very well, if your wondering how I do it i'll be glad to describe it. Let me know.
I'm at work and just snagged a box that is pretty small, but can still fit my movement templates in them. I also found an organizer for a computer desk that will be great for keeping my tokens in. I think I can put all my cards, tokens, and such in this box and maybe one Plano tray to move my ships in for the game day. I just need to make my tray. Hopefully with the Velcro.
You should always be a minimal as possible when attending large events. Regionals will bring all kinds of people and the commotion will make it difficult to keep track of your extras. Some locations have plenty of room for you to get pickup games after the tournament is over, however you may be a little tired of X-Wing by the time you finish swiss rounds. The competitor in me says "planning to play games after the swiss rounds means you're not planning on making the cut to the final rounds".
Remember: Bring only what you need to survive. Not that oversized hairdryer ![]()
I use a "Really useful box" 1.5L for tournaments. Its very narrow and fits between things easily. Its about the size of a 14" long card box. It won't hold a decimator or a falcon, but it will hold everything else with some creative foam inserts. I've even taken two full small ship fleets (100 point) in this box, for getting in extra games. I also use a small box for tokens inside the large one. I'd recommend as small of a box as you can get, and take exactly what you need. You can and should always leave the extras in the car!
