Vader, RGC, 3x Imperial Officers - Opinions?

By macmastermind, in Imperial Assault Skirmish

I played the same list at my local store this past weekend too macmastermind. I'm not sure what you have in your command deck, but as for minis, same loadout.

I did decently well but lost 2 out of 3 games. The one I ended up winning was a mirror of the list I was running. That poor guy was also rolling bad. I took out his RGC and Vader almost back to back with my Vader and RGC. It was still a good time though.

Any game that supports a random element is always vulnerable to chaos. It's what makes the game feel more realistic, as in life there are situations that can run out of control, no matter how well we plan for it. This opens up the phrase "Beginner's Luck," though this being Star Wars, "there is no luck." That being said, I believe your issue in that tourny was simply...the Force wasn't with you that day. Meditate, Concentrate...or, as this is an Imperial Build...use the Hate you feel for the loss, and embrace it. Strike out at your next opponent with all of your might! They will crumble to your will, for that is the Power of the Dark Side!

Well, I do have to say I was inspired to run 'Boss Mode' in a tourney last week...and won :) I only had 2 skirmish games under my belt, so being a more straight forward list was a lot of fun.

My closest match was against 4 Royal squads and 4 officers. The only reason I won that is I somehow got a mega combo on the first turn. He deployed all 12 of his models stacked up on one side of deployment. I ordered Vader forward, and he order a couple royals up. However, I saw an opening, said why the heck not, and activated Vader, moving him just barely into los and range 2 of the middle guy in my enemies deployment zone. I then popped force lightning, hitting 7 models with 2dmg and stun :D . I also had to the limit, and urgency, so Vader sprinted out of there, to grab a console on the far right side of the map. It was beautiful.

Let's say as vulnerable, then...

I have the same problem in X-Wing, too. Any finesse moves or synergies end up just failing me. Max health and max attack dice is where I have to go...

I would recommend then a heavy 3-dice build. If you are getting off 7-8 attacks a turn poor dice throws don't hurt nearly as bad.

Something like:

Vader x1

Officer x1

Elite Probe Droid x2

Elite Officer x2

You could even swap out the two elite officers for two regular prove droids and two more regular officers but being able to attack 3-4 times a round with Vader is sure to leave you happy.

Wow I didnt think about this but that is a really annoying build. Think I would go RGC over Vader in that build. That kind of gives him his one to punch but with acts.

Yeah I tested two builds one was:

-1x Vader

-2x Elite Officer

-2x Elite Probe Droids

-1x Regular Officer

The other was

-1x Royal Guard Champion

-2x Elite Officer

-2x Elite Probe Droid

-1x Regular Probe Droid

-1x Regular Officer

Both worked pretty well but I always got better results with the Vader build, for some reason his pierce 3 was always essential to me and being able to have force lightning etc my command deck proved really powerful. The probe droids are awesome little turrets, especially the elite ones with 7 health, they can usually recover from surges and become self sufficient once Vader or RGC knocks out a few figures.

are not the builds using vader or RGC and more than one other elite illegal in tournament skirmishes?

You may need to re-read the rule a few times it's worded funny.

You can have up to 1 copy of a unique unite, 2 copies of each elite deployment card. And 4 copies of each regular deployment card.

As such you could have a build like:

-2x Elite Troopers

-2x Elite Probe Droids

-2x Elite Offciers

-1x Regular Officers

because you only have 2 elites of a certain deployment group.

You could not have a team of

-4x Elite Troopers

-2x Regular Officers

because you'd have more than 2 elites of the same deploy group.

thank you for your response

I as you can see had miss read the way it was written

thank you :)
