I am completely new to painting. I had a really quick questions mainly what kind of paints to use. I tried testors and it does fine on a single layer of paint but if I try to paint over that it doesn't working at all. I did pick up some black wash and ran it over my Tie Fighters. I want to find the same blue they used on the Tie Bombers if any knows and would like to share please

When using paints make to sure to use Acrylic paint. It is easy to clean, mix and the colour range is mind blowing. There are many reputable companies that produce them (Vallejo, GW, etc.) The only real issue you will face is coverage. You may (and in some cases WILL) need to apply several coats. Always water them down a little first - so they are the consistency of milk).

If your paint looks like nail polish and doesn't clean with water - throw it away.

Some companies produce some great inks and washes. I will recommend GW here .. people will bite at me for saying this but you can literally walk into a store and pick one up, compare colours and talk to other painters in the store. I tad more difficult on the interweb machine. Mix your blue shade and darken it with a little black or really dark brown. When you find the ratio you like, make a little pot of it so you will always have that shade when you need it. Really water your washes down.

If your model is too dark, give it a quick drybrush with your desired colours to lighten it a little and bring out the highlights. It's easy and fast. If you're unsure what drybrushing is .. google it. There are countless tutorials.
