Destroyed Ships and Debris Fields

By Beatty, in Star Wars: Armada

So I know this is more of an optional rules than anything but I was thinking having a ship that is destroyed creating a Debris Field would be a fun touch. After all when A Victory Class ship goes Boom! it's piec won't just vanish and this would be a fun new obstacle for Admirals to overcome.

Do you head straight for a ship that is almost dead and is point blank or do you veer hard left to avoid flying through the ship that is breaking apart?

Thoughts?

I think the huge ships already stay in game after dying. It is a fun idea though, maybe keep the base in play for one more round, having it go straight forward and using asteroid rules?

Think of Clone Wars when the capitals fight, they have to move away from ships that are breaking up or the damage is huge.

Might also urge people to not go for damage points guaranteed by ramming. Surprised there isn't a rule for it actually. I'm going to go look it up...

I was just thinking this exact thing the other day. Remove the base and set the model "adrift" on the table.

Straight ahead, at present speed, until it drifts off board?

this debris suggestion was actually used in some casual games of X-wing at my LGS. it was pretty fun.

just swap the ship with the debris field

Well that's the question. We know the debris will continue to move at its speed in space but for game purposes do you just say it stays where the ship was destroyed? (Trust me, many laws of physics are broken in the Star Wars universe, why not this too?)

Yeah, "adrift" was not clear. I'm thinking more along the lines of ESB when the ISD was hit with the ion canon.

We did that once too for an Epic game. We ended up not liking it though because getting a kill shot usually meant you were going to spend next turn choking on stress from your own kill. :/

I think when Luke said "I just got a little cooked back there" it was code for, "I pooped a little".

He was stressed flying through that explosion.

Also in armada flying through things doesn't hurt, just when you land on them. Unlike xwing.
