Uh...holy ****
Rogue Squadron, The Movie "Rogue One"
All of my dreams are continuing to come true. This gives me a warm and happy feeling in the core of my self.
See many, many comments here: https://community.fantasyflightgames.com/index.php?/topic/137747-rogue-one/
Yeah, but can we really put a limit on the number of "OMG there's a girl leading rogue squadron in the next movie maybe" threads this forum needs?
All speculation at this point. Don't get too excited or be prepared for a major let down.
Girls leading Rogue squadron?? There'll be female space marines next. (/trollface).
Honestly, I just want star wars: Top gun. I don't care if there are girls, boys, aliens, whatever.
Just no gungans or ewoks.
maybe less shower scenes and volleyball too.
I thought the OP had a link to confirmation. Still speculation. That article is nearly 2 weeks old.

And also wrong in calling Luke Rogue Five.
Their whole premise for the article is flawed. Rogue Squadron wasn't in the movies.
They are Red Squadron in ANH and Rogue Squadron in ESB.

Unless it's lieutenant Kettch

Of course.

Which squadron flew the air speeders at the Battle of Hoth then?
The article is wrong, kinda, they referred to ANH Red squadron as Rogue, still, as Red were reformed into Rogue, with KIA members being considered rogues....
Yeah.
Also Rogue were in ESB/ROTJ - as Funk said, Hoth.
In ROTJ they went back to the Red Squadron name, but I think it was explained that it was in honor of the first Death Star run. Maybe a good luck thing. Also, Rogue squadron hadn't been fully reformed after the loses at Hoth and it was more of a hodgepodge of starfighters/pilots.
Edited by Jo JoRogue squadron movie would be amazing. Even more amazing would be a movie about the 181st. Now that would be interesting. Honestly, there could be a ton of movies about the Empire. Imperial royal guards, etc.

Don't underestimate the Ewoks. They were the only ones who were able to capture many of the Rebel high command all at one time and then decide that they should eat them.
This could be any time around Ep 4-6....around the new Ep 7-8...or the 30 years in between.
While I am psyched by the idea of a Top Gun-style X-Wing movie with a female lead pilot, I don't think there's anything in this article that confirms what we've speculated on. The article is just speculation, with some errors in it that you all have already pointed out.
There's no new information, is there?

No new info that I saw. Like everyone else, I'm glad to see the movie is in the works. Bonus points for inclusive casting.

So, we're getting a movie about snowspeeders then? You are right, they are of course in the movies, just never in X-Wings which is what the article is talking about.
The whole from Red to Rogue to Red again, but it is the same squadron, is an EU idea.

Disney will be lifting a great deal of the EU I suspect. I am ok with this.

On Hoth they were refered to as Rogue Flight and with Blue and Green Squadrons formed Rogue Group for Battle of Hoth. No mention of Rogue Squadron in the movies. No idea what has been retconned but it wasn't in the movies.

Oh, I agree it is most likely about X-Wings, but it would be premature to assume so, especially based on an article which is basically mixing stuff up.
I'm glad to hear people talk about being excited for the new movies instead of the "Waaaah....Disney will ruin it!" mindset.
I don't get how Disney could ruin anything in the face of the prequels. It would be hard to be worse than those. I wish somebody would go through and do some prequel-era stuff that's cool. I really do like the looks of the Naboo N.1 and I think it dogfighting space pirates has promise.
