Coenus Scaldingus' Random Repaints

By Coenus Scaldingus, in X-Wing

Let's get those things a bit organised, instead of spread over 20 different threads.

Will get some better pics of old ones in due course, and plenty of new ones over time.

First one of two identical IGs. Metallic, dark and evil.

Then everybody's favourite Z, N'dru:

No idea what's next.. M3A or Firespray probably, although I also have two TIEs and a Defender looking for some different colours. Stay tuned!

Great looking stuff, thanks for posting!

Thanks!

Second post, and already a need to alter the title, for the thread will now also include modifications.

First a minor one (or two, really). If the little Scyks are to carry some proper cannons around, I figured they should at least show something decent. Simple brass rods with a small indent filed in, put in drilled holes. Most people won't even notice, but still fun. Being among the ugliest of FFG's ships in terms of colours and quality of paintjob, they'll definitely be repainted soon.

Next one is.. a bit more noticeable. Honestly, it was scary to cut such a figure up to this extent (consisted of 11 separate pieces at one point). It's just that I started to dislike the StarViper more and more, especially when seen from the front. Wings folded back looked better already.. but even then not quite what I was looking for. Rules look fun though, so I wanted one anyway. Eventually decided on a way to put it back together, making it into some mechanical dragonfly-esque ship. Having seen the Monarch repaint, an M3A with waspstripes and knowing that the Aggressors already look very insectoid, I'm very tempted to make an arthropodic syndicate now. Currently struggling to find a nice way to make the HWK fit into that aesthetic - although I'll keep myself entertained painting these three ships first.

You've made a Starviper into a Starmoth! :D

You've made a Starviper into a Starmoth! :D

^^^ this make me spit my coffee ^^^ :D

but the conversion is solid, I like what you did there

I kinda like that StarViper. Some of my friends call the StarViper the 'dainty butterfly'. Well, this version will now be forever known as the 'demented butterfly'. :)

StarDragonfly, StarDragonfly, it's a.. it's... yeah, it reminded me of a moth too. :P

Paintjob and mad combat performance should make it resemble the insect top predator more - hopefully.

First though, the M3A repaints. Can't be mistaken for something worse than they are, as their colours are inspired by greenbottle flies (Lucilia caesar). Take some getting used too, but I'll definitely be able to recognise these from across the table.

OMG! I love those flies! That's such a cool idea. The insect-scyk connection is just begging for more work. Would be great to do a whole squadron with different paint schemes based on real dragonflies.

Nice idea, well executed on the dragonflies. Thumbs up!

Wow Cracking job on The Dragon fly paint scheme .

they will certainly stand out on the table top.......Are you going to Paint your Star Viper with an Insect Pattern ?

All the best,

Barry :D

Reinforcements come buzzing in!

HWK modification and repaint - really like those wings moved to the front (and yes, at such an angle that the turret shoots past them)

Somewhat based on various horseflies. Has a bronzish gleam that doesn't really show on the pictures.

And the StarViper, with waaaay too many lines/veins on the wings. Should admit that none of them have the lines on the other side of the wings, painting them costs a fair bit of time and a good proportion of my sanity. (Cordulia aenea, an emerald dragonfly)

Group shot! 100pts of arthropodian Scum.

I love that dragonfly Starviper. That last picture really sells it too. What a cool squadron!

I really like the over/under wings on the HWK.

Awesome paintjobs! And the mods are pretty sweet, too!

The HWK is my favorite out of those so far. Ive always been a fan of the Starviper as it was in Shadows of the Empire, but I love seeing what people do with them though!

Im surprised you didn't make the aggressor into one of those water bugs.
