May the 3rd Be With You Tournament - Denver, CO

By Guinivere17, in X-Wing Organized Play

Greetings and salutations fellow X-Wing players!

I am pleased to announce that Bonnie Brae Hobbies in Englewood will be running an X-Wing tournament at the Wings over the Rockies Air and Space Museum on Sunday May 3rd!

What

We will play four rounds of the standard 100 point squad building style of play. Each round will last 90 minutes. Any of the three playable factions are welcome. We are limited to fifty participants, so if you are interested in participating please fill out the registration form here . The number of rounds and timing of each may change depending on participation.

The most current tournament rules and X-Wing FAQ will be used and can be found here, X-Wing FAQ (as of 9/26/14) Tournament Rules (as of 2/27/15), If newer versions of these come out between now and the tournament I will be sure to post the new rules.

Where

Wings over the Rockies Air and Space Museum is dedicated to the history of aviation here in Colorado. The museum is housed in a 1930’s era hanger with over 150,000 square feet of space and over four dozen airplanes and space vehicles. One of the exhibits they have is ¾ scale X-Wing built by Lucasfilms! Here is the website for the museum

When

Check-in for the tournament will begin at 10:00 am and the first round will begin at 10:30 am. We will be wrapping up around 5:00 pm that night. Round One will start at 10:30.

Cost

There is a cost to get into the museum as well as for the tournament. The entry fee for the tournament is $10 and the discounted price for the museum is $15. Normally for a big event like their Star Wars celebrations it would cost $20 to get in, but the museum is cutting us a deal!

Prize Support

All of the money brought in from tournament fees will go directly to prizes. These prizes will be in gift cards to Bonnie Brae Hobbies.

· 1 st place – 45% of the tournament fees

· 2 nd place – 25% of the tournament fees

· 3 rd place – 15 % of the tournament fees

· Sportsmanship Award – 15% of the tournament fees

There is prize that the museum is sponsoring as well. For every ten participants in the tournament, they will be giving away one opportunity to sit in the cockpit of the X-Wing they have! These opportunities will be given away as door prizes, one chance for every ten participants

We are supper excited to be offering this opportunity at an amazing location. Thank you all for your interest and time. Hope to see you in May!

Cool! I would be there in a heartbeat, but alas, Clutch is playing Red Rocks that day.

I did forget to add that we will be accepting onsite registration as well. The online form is to give us a estimation on participation.

Here is the new FAQ , effective as of 3/25/2015

I am hoping to make it - need to check the schedule for that weekend before committing to play. This should be a fun place for a tournament!

With 50 potential players and only 4 rounds - you could still have 4 undefeated players at the end of the day (if I am doing my math correctly) - so 1 loss completely eliminates any chance at a prize. Are 90 minute rounds really needed? Shortening the rounds to the standard 75 minute timeframe means you could squeeze in a 5th round. Time spent not playing means you can look around the museum, though - so the 90 minute rounds should let players both play and see what the museum has to offer.

A question for you - will the special entry price of $15 to the museum be available to family members as well? My wife is thinking of coming down but will not be playing in the X-Wing event.

The number of rounds and timing are flexible, depending on participation levels. If we have a large turnout we will look at dropping the round time to fit another round in.

Unfortunately, the $15 admission only applies to those in the tournament. Family is encouraged to come see the awesome museum, but admission will be $20 for them.

I also need to make one more revision to the post. The event runs from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm, I have made the edit in the first post.

Definitely interested but will have to see what my schedule looks like closer to the event.

Is this a bracket tournament set up? Or will you draw 4 random opponents and score based off the results of each match?

Random opponents pairing for round one, then paired up with players with similar results for the remainder of the rounds.

Hello again everyone!

The tournament is in less than a month! We still have lots of space for people to register, and I fixed the registration so you don't have to log into a Google account to access it! Follow it here to sign up. We are going to have lots of stuff to give away in addition to the prizes for 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and sportsmanship. And don't forget, everyone playing in the tournament will be entered for a chance to sit in a X-Wing!

See you all in a few weeks!

Hello everyone!

So I have some troubling news. The sponsor of the tournament, Bonnie Brae Hobbies, is closing down in June. The tournament is still on, confirmed by the owner of the store! This is going to be their last tournament they will run, so lets get a huge turn out! If anything will change I will update everyone. I am talking with the owner tomorrow and will have more details then.

Remember to sign up so we can get a head count! Here is the link !

We hit a mile stone last night! We now have 26 people signed up for the tournament. We still have 24 spots open, but they are moving fast. If you want to join us please sing up here and reserve your spot.

I just signed up yesterday! Have you heard anything from Bonnie about the tournament confirmation?

What do you mean by tournament confirmation?

What do you mean by tournament confirmation?

Your post 3 levels up said " If anything will change I will update everyone. I am talking with the owner tomorrow and will have more details then. " I was just curious if you spoke to the owner and if you have any new information or simply a confirmation that the tournament is 100% a go.

Thank you for keeping up on the forums.

Just added myself and my son to the list of participants.

How is the entry fee to the museum and the tournament being collected? Will WotR collect the entry to the museum and then we pay the entry for the tournament separately or will WotR be collecting both entries?

Good questions all around.

@HarryFel - No nothing has changed nor do I think it will. After talking with the owner last night we do need everyone who has a play mat to bring theirs with them. Because of the stores eminent closing they are not going to order in a bunch of mats that may not be sold in the last few weeks.

@Spike IT - The museum will collect the $15, just need to let them know that you will be participating in the tournament. There will be a check in table for the tournament where you will pay for that. We will have a card reader if you want to pay with a magic money card as well as change for cash.

Greetings!

Here is some more information about the tournament. We will be playing 4 rounds at 70 minutes each with a break between rounds for new parings. It will look something like this...

Registration 9:30-10:00

Round 1 10:00-11:10

Round 2 11:20-12:30

Lunch 12:30-1:15

Round 3 1:15-2:25

Round 4 2:35-3:45

*These times are subject to subtle changes at the event*

A note on playing surfaces. The museum is providing the tables and Bonnie Brae will be providing a cover for the tables. If you want to play on a mate we encourage you to bring your own. If you do it will move around with you so you will always play on your mate.

As always if there are any questions please ask. Also make sure to register so we can get a headcount. The more people that are playing the more people that will sit in the X-Wing!

How many have you guys got with a week remaining until the event?

As of 9:45 pm this evening we have 32 confirmed. I am expecting a couple people to join us the day of, but I am quickly running out of space. If you are interested, please register . We would love to have you

Thanks to Bonnie Brae Hobby shop for running a great tournament and the Wings Over the Rockies for hosting. It was a great time to play on a Star Wars day right in front of an X-Wing!!

I want to thank all the people who came down to play in the tournament! You guys made it a success! We will likely be holding the event again next year, so hope to see you all again in a year.

Thank you all once again for participating, and May the force be with you on this glorious Star Wars day!

Great tournament, great atmosphere at the Wings Over the Rockies Museum. I enjoyed watching the Star Wars ships act as a tractor beam to wide eyed kids all day.

Good diversity of lists although fat turrets continued to be powerful. Top 5 I believe was:

1-RAC/Fel

2-Tie Swarm

3-RAC/Fel

4-Chewie/Dash

5-mixed rebels
