Vessery Options

I'm trying to make a list for a store championship this weekend, and I'm on the fence with a few different Vessery builds

Vessery: lone wolf, stealth

OMG: ST-321, Vader

They all look alright on paper and come out to 99 points each, but i'm having trouble deciding. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I like a minimum of upgrades on Vessery--for the most part, the fewer upgrades, the better. So is run something like the second version, but with VI instead of Lone Wolf and probably no Stealth. The extra points could buy you an Ion Cannon, a couple of bombs, or a systems upgrade for the shuttle.

Also, if you've never tried it, Adrenaline Rush might be my favorite upgrade of any kind for Vessery.

There should be plenty of target locks flying around and the shuttle becomes much more offensive. It's 100 points though so there's the initiative problem

What initiative problem? You're on PS 8/2/2/1, so you're not competing for PS against most things you'd worry about--that is, you're not really making an PS bid, so backing it up with an initiative bid isn't going to help.

If it helps at all, I seriously considered a very similar list for my SC (before setting it aside to run Scum):

Colonel Vessery (35)

Bounty Hunter (33)

Total: 100

I've played it a few times, and it struggles against high-PS arc-dodgers like Whisper and Soontir (and Corran and Dash, to a lesser degree) but it competes pretty well against everything else.

On another topic called Vessery on trial I was suggested

Vessery with veteran instincts

Omicron with advanced sensors, fleet officer and engine upgrade

What initiative problem? You're on PS 8/2/2/1, so you're not competing for PS against most things you'd worry about--that is, you're not really making an PS bid, so backing it up with an initiative bid isn't going to help.

you make a fine argument, and I have always wanted to try a buzzsaw shuttle. thank you.

Handing out stress feels like it might also be a good idea. Maybe instead of gunner on the shuttle, rebel captive and tactician would do some good

Also I only have 2 bombers. What about instead of a shuttle...Howl+swarm, and an AP, adds up to 100 points

I've had a lot of luck with what I call the Vessimator:

COL Vessery + Outmaneuver + HLC

CAPT Kenkirk + Determination + Isard + Captive + W-Engr

Vessery shoots with 4 dice at any range, and often reduces opponent's Agility. 4v2 again Corran or Fel? yes please! And getting outside the Falcon's arc means 3P0 can't make his guess, as they roll no dice!

Kenkirk provides support of Vessery's ability with Weapon's Engineer for TLs on 2 different foes, giving Vessery more options to shoot with free TLs. Captive hurts high PS pilots (looking at you, Phantoms) and low ship number builds (swap Jade if your meta has more swarms). Isard synchs well with Kenkirk's ability, so you're rolling 1Def + free Evade after you start taking hull damage. And Determination on a 12 hull ship means I discard an average of 1-2 pilot crits a game, for only 1 point!

Certainly has its weaknesses, but it's been very competitive and a lot of fun to fly.
