I am curious about this, I haven't seen much news on this so far. My local group is planning on doing 180 games for now on our flight nights until 300 is reasonable.

For me, a friend of mine is also pre-ordering. We will probably do a 300 point game within 2 weeks of getting it. At home I will probably just sticking to the 180 point game with my brothers.

If you have multiple core sets in your gaming group why can't you do 300 point lists?

I have only ordered one of each fighters set and core with the intention of playing with someone else's core as well until wave 2!

I'll have two core sets, so I reckon I could do 300pts straight away, but personally I think 180pt games could be a valid choice even when everyone has plenty of ships, given how long 300pts apparently takes.

Most people ( I would wager in most groups) aren't going to be excited about or able to afford getting two core sets right away. It's a bit of a gamble, specially if you're one of two people in your local community that got two anyway. Sure, everyone's going to pick up the expansions when they come out, but out of the 14 or so people that I play with regularly around here, probably only 1 or 2 of them are getting double core sets. As a guy who bought two Imperial Assault sets, I see myself getting just one core due to the cost and the strong desire to buy the duplicate ships one by one anyway.

So that's why I am wondering how long before wave 1 hits shelves, roughly.

Well Wave one is one the boat and has been since last week so probably another 4 to 6 weeks.

I think the 180 point games will be an excellent learning experience. I will probably play a few of these to get a real feel for how each ship behaves and then bump it up to 300 when the time is right.

Well, I will play Wave 1 when it gets here. And since it is stated in the rules that you should stick to 180 if all you have is a Starter I will do that.

Probably my very first game will be my Vic and my friends Vic for me vs my two reb ships plus his two reb ships. I see no reason to wait for a full game
