X wing Card Packs

Yes, the Core sucks if you want only play Scum.

If you consider Core and MW as the Scum Starter, you've got starting ships for all three factions.

I didn't say it doesn't work, I'm simply stating what I wish the game would offer, is it now a crime to state an opinion? Once again, I don't expect FFG to do any of this, I voicing what I would like to see in the game. Some people agree and some people don't.

You're effectively just asking for it to be cheaper now though.

"If anything, that could be the biggest problem for FFG as XWMG evolves, as the original X-Wing and TIE Fighter from the core set have both struggled to keep a place in the meta within Wave 6."

If anything FFG is amazing at bringing back "old" ships...seen the Y-wing lately?

I heard the TIE advanced is too expensive and nobody uses it...

One of my favorite things (aside from just playing the game) is how the designers are constantly evaluating what works and what doesn't.

So wouldn't it be in FFG's best interest and bank account to have 90% of its players purchasing an upgrade supplement pack with the Tie- X1 card in it than 20% buying the raider to get the card? People who want the raider will get the raider but everyone wants the fix to their Tie advanced. FFG would only be creating an additional revenue stream

BRB, going to check with FFG's accountants.

If their marketing staff agreed they'd do it.

What would they know? Obviously they don't have the economic acumen of the internet.

Let me know what they say

Gotta catch em all!

Not a card game. This is a miniatures game that uses cards for customization instead of a faction book.

No card packs will be needed and there are way to many replies for a 1 day thread.

We're all bored waiting for news of Wave 7/Raider.

You guys shoot down new ideas like you have a HLC with a target lock and a focus to burn!

Except this isn't a new idea. It's been requested, demanded, begged for, and queried at least once a month since the creation of this forum.

And the answer has never changed: not a snowball's chance in hell.

It's not new, and FFG have already shot it down.

K well then its been sort of fun guys, see you all at gen con!

Once they figure out how to give the X-Wing the nudge it needs to be competitive again, I'd love for them to sit down and redesign the Core Box. Not to add anything new, per se (I'd hate for a new Core set to have anything in it I can't find elsewhere!), but just to make sure the Core set is still fulfilling it's purpose of easing new players into the game.

At this point: half the wave 1 ships, and 3/4 of the Wave 2 ships have had significant upgrades and changes. I think it would make a lot of sense to ensure that the Core Box experience is still new player friendly.

But I don't want Episode 7 Branding. This game spans all of Star Wars, not just 1 movie.

When the goal is to get people interested in Epic, which requires 3 times the ships? And that is the whole point of the cross buying of ships. They are able to make more money on ships than cards, because they are able charge more, because the customer sees more value.

And I shudder at what FFG would have to do to make such packs appealing to the collectionist. Let's not Wizkids this games...

C3PO is so badly OP the cards from the Tantative could go for much more.

C-3PO isn't overpowered. (He also isn't the original poster, just to hedge my bets here.)

Pretty solid evidence that you, like too many people, just copy your opinions on these things off the internet rather than thinking. Consider what 3PO actually does.

I think C3-PO is the best card in the game...at least that was what one of FFGs accountants told me.

I am actually for card packs myself, if only for this reason:

In every other minis game out there, when you buy a model, you can with just that model use every ability and upgrade that model is allowed to use. You do not need to but 6 other models from different factions / armies, in order to unlock the full potential of your ship.

This has been a HUGE turn off to potential new players at my shop.

You do need the rulebook and, often, the faction rulebook to outline those powers, but I do agree. It is inconvenient. Fortunately, it's easily remedied at low level events. I have not bought any Starvipers, but my friends have no objection to my proxying autothrusters.

So wizards of smart, please tell me what I should do when a kid wants to buy a most wanted pack and two star vipers, then asks this should be good to get me started right? I inform him that he needs to buy a starter set to get his dice, templates, ruler and asteroids. He says but I don't want the x wing or tie fighters. What do I say then? Tough luck?

I'm on page 4 of 9 comments right now.... However, I have close to 20 years of retail sales experience. If you need someone to fly out to your store (at your expense) to teach you Retail Sales Techniques 101, I'd happily do that. If you can't sell, you shouldn't be in sales.

Oh, and as another thought... I just recalled that I (semi-seriously) joked with the manager of my FLGS that if he really wants to push his sales into over drive, do what the mobile phone companies do: SELL THE CORE PRODUCT AT YOUR LANDED COST ... and then reap in the riches as the customers buy every add-on they can get their paws on.

*boom* <mike drop>

I think the problem in this thread is that the OP described both a problem and a solution.

I think the proposed solution (card packs) will not happen. Sad, but there it is.

I think the problem is a problem. I'm a competitive guy, and am looking to get to a level where I can play in tournaments.

I look at net lists, not to slavishly follow, but to see how ships work in combination with each other, and to see what upgrades work well.

Thematically, despite what the meta says, I like the idea of flying rebels, including the X-wing itself.

I have been tempted by a Blue/2-Rookie/3-Bandit list simply because it doesn't require any cards.

But the more interesting lists featuring X-wings use Elite Pilot Talent cards, Astromechs and Upgrades that are NOT found in the core and X-wing sets.

(viz Veteran Instincts, Predator, Draw Their Fire and Lone Wolf; Rebel Transport Astros; Stealth Device and Hull/Shield/Engine Upgrades)

I had hoped to find more of a trading vibe in the clubs around me, but it's lacking.

The Team Covenant singles concept is nice (and so is E-bay), but the cards I'm after are always out-of-stock or unreasonably priced.

Yeah I would love you fly you out to help me with my struggling x wing sales. Oh and by the way could you bring about 8-10 x wing core sets with you that I might be able to buy from you at wholesale cost because gosh darn it if my distributor is all out of them and can't seem to get more? Oh and if you could please send me your resume, last years sales reports, and references from your boss or customers cuz you know I don't want to take a risk on someone who has been working at the gap for the last 20 years selling jeans to teenagers. Now if you had to work your ass off, take out a mortagage, convince your wife to let you complete a dream of starting your own game store with two of your best friends, get enough capitol to finally open, then to have your two months do better than any of your business models had predicted then I'll fly you out to help me sell a product that I love. I thought I would just share a few ideas i had on the possible evolution of x wing on a forum. But on second thought I don't think I need your advice because I just realized I have spent far to much time trying to justify my comments to you people who have blown a simple wish list letter to fantasy flight way out of hand. So I'm not going to drop a metaphorical microphone because I live in the real world and people who drop fake microphones are sad.
