So, who will be painting their bases and/or ships

By Funk Fu master, in Star Wars: Armada

I have a core set plus 1 of everything (2 GSDs) ordered, so I intend on getting some individuality going.

First of all, all bases will be black. Peg stands will also be. Still tossing up wether the larger curved stands for the AS Mk2/VSD will be aswell or to leave them clear.

Second CR-90 and Neb-B will be getiing a touch up aswell, myabe orange trim and blue wash for the CR-90 to match the card art, and a different trim for the Neb-b.

Fighters will get a once over aswell. a full pallete of X-wing squad colours is in order, and the 2 main colours for each of the other -wings

Imps, less so, 181st bloodstripes for the interceptors, maybe red chevrons for Mauler Mithel, but i am not sure how to customise the rest.

Same goes for the Star destroyers. How does one individualise the "We are Legion" Imperial Navy.

GSD hanger bay lighting may get some custom lighting as the card art shows.

Might risk doing some battle damage on one of the VSDs

(I am so over waiting for this game.....)

Maybe a wash over the fighter, if I ever get around to it. It's the prepainted miniatures games I get into purely because I have no time to paint. I still have hundreds of 15mm ACW troops to paint.

One day, when I retire...maybe ;)

Yeah, my X-Wing bases are all black (and weighted). I'll be painting my Arnada bases too, I'm sure.

I'll be looking to paint up my fighters as well.

As I'm going for the Empire, I also have the dilemma of what to do with them.

Rebels I'll be painting. Imperials will remain navy grey... though I may give one of my Victories an orange tint? I dunno.

On at least one of the assault frigates I'm very tempted to paint WWII style shark teeth.

I'll certainly be painting all the squadrons, but i'll likely leave the ships as they are for starters.

I want to paint the squads. Aside from a basic black wash, what base colors do you normally use for the fighters?

Ill give all the fighters at least a wash or dip, and some of them a lick of paint before, and I will be painting the engine glows if they look inadequate. Otherwise I am quite happy with the models and bases, and I cannot understand why some people paint the pegs black. ;)

Will a wash stick on the fighters, or will they need a base coat?

Anybody else find the MC paint job kind of meh? I see what they're trying for but it feels in need of weathering at the very least. Looks more like a model than a miniature if that makes sense. I'd also prefer some different colors, like a tan or steel blue to create some individuality.

Isn't that because their previews are still unpainted? I think they're still planning to paint them.

Ya from what I can tell the painted Mon Cal is weathered. Most of the pictures are of the unpainted prototypes. I will be painting my fighters for sure.

I suppose for Imperials one could always paint their Victor class as corporate sector authority vessels just to shake it up.

A good question, and one I cannot answer until I have tried. :)

I plan to use a dark grey wash followed up with a light grey drybrush on the TIE's. Maybe add a little detail here and there on top of that. I think the capital ships look amazing and don't need anything.

Yeah, same here - but just by the looks of it, a wash on its own won't do the trick.

Unless I get better ideas from you all, I think I'm going to spray paint them with a cheap black spray paint (along with the stems and bases, if practical) and then highlight them with two coats of gray - a darker but heavier drybrush, and then a lighter one to get the ridges to stand out.

Now the latter image is somewhat blurry but is obviously painted. It seems to be the same set up as the Assault Frigate MkII. I can understand the desire for uniformity but it just doesn't work on the MC to me. It just doesn't bring the feel of this:

You know, touched up and with some details, I actually don't mind the dark gray unpainted mold's overall effect as a primary color...

Oh, I know what's irking me. The Assault Frigate MkII, MC80, MC30 Frigate, and Nebulon-B (I suppose the CR90 as well) all have the same weathered "American Red Cross" look of white, red, and light brown. FOr one or two ships, sure. But having uniformally "diverse" paint schemes kind of defeats the point. They're oddly similar for what are supposed to be a bunch of mismatched Rebel ships.

I am strongly considering putting some blood stripes on a VSD. I got 2 cores so once wave 1 comes out I'll have an extra anyway. But I think some cool paint on one (flagship?) would be neat. Nothing crazy, just touch ups.

Also, not sure if the models have engine glow, will probably do that as well if not.

That could certainly work. I guess it's up to whatever matches your headcanon. Post-Endor, there could certainly have been Imperial remnant warlords who might have distinguished themselves with such markings.

Vallejo Stone Grey is an almost perfect match for the hulls of X- and Y-Wings.

Stone Grey has been a staple in my rebel repaints as well. Very close match.
