Wave 3 possibilities?

By bradflinn88, in Star Wars: Imperial Assault

If they were doing terrain specific stormtroopers, Why are the heavy stormtroopers not sandtroopers? Instead they have no environmental specialization and just a larger weapon.

Also we don't have any existing snow tiles. While yes, they could create a large number of snow tiles to represent the first act of one movie, it is more cost effective and logical for fantasy flight to supplement the existing, and far more adaptable to any planet, jungle and sand terrain. Now depending on how many tiles are in the new expansion box, it could happen.

Sculpting a new miniature to represent a snow trooper is also an extra cost. We see them once. Even the AT-AT shows up on Endor. The cons outweigh the pros for making a miniature. For a figure that is a Stormtrooper for all intents and purposes, but has a cold environment tag is not as useful overall, especially in skirmish, if the rebels don't have similar figures.

Now if Fantasy Flight made a full size 100 dollar new campaign box that was all about Hoth, with 9 scrubbing bubble troopers amongst others and a whole box full of open white terrain tiles then that is fine. But for the mini expansion that twin Suns is, with seemingly 10 figures, two being new heroes, I don't see specialized imperial troops, being produced. At least for a while.

As of now, fantasy flight is giving us, apart from the tuskans, figures that are useful in any setting and look like the basic Stormtrooper.

Cost wise sculpting new units that have vastly different capabilities is a better bet, such as scout troopers or TIE pilots as they can be used in more scenarios then cold weather attack troops.

I think this conversations has got confused at some point. I was not suggesting they would make Snow Troopers, I was suggesting that they could very well release a Hoth pack with new Stormtroopers that are NOT Snow Troopers, a possibility you yourself seem to be advocating with the example of Heavy Troopers. I don't understand why you see this as an argument against a Hoth pack, any more than it is against a Tatooine pack.

I've been working under the assumption that Wave 3 will be a 'big expansion' more in line with the $60 expansions for Descent, which include 15+ minis.

I can definitely see that working for Hoth. Although, like I said earlier, I think the first big expansion will stay Tatooine related, so we're probably a few waves away.

Looking at Descent it also has Hero and Monster packs, which could definitely be an avenue for some of the more specialised stuff like Snowtroopers.

We didn't get Sandtroopers per se, but we did get 'trooper officer with pauldron' and 'trooper with bigger gun' which is really the most recognisable trait of the Sandtroopers from the films...all the other differences are very 'inside baseball' and don't really speak to the visual notalgia hook that, let's be honest, is what a lot of us are looking for to one degree or another.

To be fair Sandtroopers are a bit of a misnomer: they're stormtroopers. There's literally no difference except maybe the backpack, which strikes me as standard issue.

Snowtroopers, however, have special "not freezing to death" armour.

An AT-AT is too large perfect for Imperial Assault!

For the final act of the campaign I plan to drop this baby on the table and watch the so called Rebel "Heroes" tuck their Wookiee tails between their legs and go running off crying for their Mon Mothma.

I did not pick up six extra dice sets for nothing, those reds need to get rolled. :D

My guess is more Tatooine as well. I don't quite understand the relevance of "Habitat: Desert" or it's significance relative to Descent and how those types of mechanics work there... But having said that, if the Tuskens are somehow restricted to a particular tileset I can't imagine they would give you a completely different tileset with the next wave, lowering the viability of the last wave.

Loving the trooper in the middle, laying back against the AT-AT foot. So chill. :)

My guess is Habitat will give some sort of advantage on those tile types. Like auto evade or something of the sort. Then when they aren't on those tiles they don't have the advantage

It might just be for campaigns... tuskens can only be used in the campaign on certain desert missions only. For skirmish that restriction might be waved. In campaign, AT-STs can't o inside, but in skirmish they can, for instance.

Descent certainly has similar restrictions for open groups.

I think a low level Sith character is possible. I know that Darth Vader is on it already but to have a little balance maybe they could add an inquisitor. A new dedicated medic hero character. Maybe some sort of "trooper scout sniper". At some point they'll have to add some creatures like maybe a Wampa or a Gundark. It would be cool if they add Dianogah "the monster on the garbage smashers in A new hope" Not a full monster but maybe a card or token. Some interrogation droids. Maybe an NPC like a rebel pilot token that needs to be rescued. Add a miniature later and some side missions. A more powerful version of Luke Return of the Jedi style. Princess Leia will show up at some point.

WHAT ABOUT OBI? i don't see a lot of people talking about obi or Yoda.

I would love an Obi Wan "Old Ben". But I don't know how in theme it would be. Unless they want to say he still got off Tatooine from time to time.

Sounds boring but I would like to see an expansion that was the opening scene of Star Wars. Mainly because I would like to get some different posed Stormtroopers and Rebels plus a Rebel Cmdr. Could have say 6 new Stormtroopers, 3 kneeling and 3 running, plus same for rebels. I would also like a non lightsaber wielding Vader, it could also include Leia and an interrogation droid maybe? could also have corvette tiles and maybe the reverse could make a different style spaceship? Alternatively they could just produce a skirmish pack to get the different poses? lastly it would be cool to play out that storming of the Corvette. The next expansion could link to the capture of the droids and so on.

I am pretty sure we won't get more troopers or stormtroopers for the time being just doesn't make sense from a marketing stand point. You can play the scene just have to mod the figures ffg said it's ok if it's with ffg figures or just reposing. Just can't use non ffg miniatures not sure if green stuff is ok.

Nexu I am pretty sure we're not in imperial bases and inside ships.

I was wondering if they may at some point move to providing maps rather than always going with tiles. As far a figures, there are plenty of key characters to produce (Obi, Yoda, Emperor) before getting into larger pieces.

I have also found it interesting that the sculpts are the same as the WOTC SW mini's game.

No they really aren't, I'm fairly sure that WotC wouldn't let FFG use their molds, even if they still existed, and I don't believe FFG would use them.

The AT-ST for example is quite different, so is Luke Skywalker and Darth Vader. The stormtroopers may look similar but they're stormtroopers... Plus I think the IA models are a bit bigger then the WotC ones.

Although I don't have any of those left to compare to the IA versions.

Definitely different sculpts than WotC. Not even close, really.

I have thousands (yes thousands) of SWM and they are not the same. Some are very similar poses but they're not the same.

yes, Yes, YES!!! I will have my 1000 piece army buried about me and await two-thousand years for the next civilization to find the king's tomb! The modern day terracotta army!!

OK! for Wave 3...

Princess Leia

Obi Wan

Another high Ranking named Imperial soldier. An inquisitor or Special Forces type of guy like SW: REBELS

OH... and wait for it... An up armored speeder for the rebels with a anti-armor cannon to fend off the AT-ST, a flat area to place minifigures to move them across the board at double the speed and leather seats!!

Scum needs more options, as it is the faction most lacking. I expect to see more bounty hunters. Bossk, Dengar, Zuckuss, or 4Lom. Additionally, we could totally get a Rancor. It would be similar in size to the AT-ST, and would be a different type of massive figure for the game.

Imperials have plenty of admirals they can use. Also I'm expecting the Emperor to show up at some point.

Rebels obviously need Leia and Lando. Also I'd like to see more of an Elite version of the rebel trooper. Maybe a rebel commando, dressed like the rebels on Endor.

Summary:

Bounty Hunters

Rancor

Admirals

Emperor Palpatine

Leia

Lando

Rebel Commando

Uggnaughts

Considering the game is set after the destruction of the first Death Star, I find it unlikely we'll see an Obi Wan Kenobi miniature, as he's kinda dead.

Would love to see one, but doubt we will any time soon.
