Wave 3 possibilities?

By bradflinn88, in Star Wars: Imperial Assault

I know Wave 1 just came out and wave 2 just got announced but it got me really thinking about what I hope is in Wave 3. One of the things that this game has me most excited about is a Hoth big box expansion. It could include:

Big box featuring: Hoth map tiles, AT-AT, new campaigns and skirmishes

Individual boxes such as: Snowspeeder, Rebel troopers riding TaunTauns, Imperial snow troopers, Individual characters like Leia etc

Not 100% sure Snowspeeders and AT-ATs could work in this game but man I hope so because they are two of my favs

Snowspeeder maybe. Could be a 2*2 base, but would move too fast probably. Plus why would is stay near the ground.

An AT-AT would have to be 10 squares long and just as high. On top of the cost that would be, what would you do with it.

AT-ATs for Imperial Assault is just like wanting ISDs for X-Wing.

I wondering why you don't suggest the Death Star for wave 3.

.

.

And you forgot the most obvious thing: EWOKS

The problem with the AT-AT is the design of the map tiles and the very short range of the battles. AT-STs have a hard enough time navigating maps. 3x3 is the largest I can see happening really. IA is short range infantry conflicts, the sort of thing you're discussing would have to be on something like X-wing's scale.

The old Wizards SWM tried to implement AT-ATs and it just plain didn't work.

It's early days, we'll probably see things like Scout Troopers and Leia.

I'm sticking with my Major Expansion: Jabba the Hutt guess. It would let them add a significant chunk of Scum and Villainy people, would give more 'legs' to the Twin Shadows expansions and the Big Beastie is super obvious and iconic. Plus they could do some interesting things with skiff tiles and sarlacc pits.

Would also allow for some Scum and Villainy IP agenda decks.

I guess Ewoks are likely, hadn't really thought about it. I guess ATATs and snow speeders are more wishful thinking but man I wish it could work.

A Tatooine expansion with Jabba would be pretty awesome. Could have Greedo, Obi-Wan, Jabbas pig like minions

AT-AT's will be the first epic imperial assult.

Disclaimer: mabey

At this point Leia seem like the most obvious omissions to date, followed by Lando. Really hoping to see both of those soon.

Based on what's already know about the new set, I could also see Jawa's making an appearance.

I have so much on my wishlist...

I would love to have a Jedi vs. Sith expansion. More melee focused. Outlaw Jedi against Sith Inquisators.

I'd like to see Ship tiles. YT-1300, and an Imperial ship. You could have a boarding action Mission. That would be great as a Skirmish map.

Hanger tiles with fighters would be cool.

I would love some cap ship tiles. Not for the whole ship, but essential space. The Twin Shadows preview mentioned A Star Destroyer Bridge. How About Engineering? Other vital station?

New environments...we have to have Hoth. Bespin would also be cool.

Heroes... I really want a droid hero. That, and a lot more aliens. A Mon Cal, Duros, Sullustian... there are so many quintessential Star Wars species that need representatrion, And with Wave 2 we will have plenty of Humans.

Enemies... Scout troopers, Dark Troopers...the list can go on endlessly. Of course what I would really like is a Rancor, and an Ackley.

Id like to see scout troopers on 74-z speeder bikes, but they might be hard to maneuver because im pretty sure they would need to be 3 spaces in length

http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/74-Z_speeder_bike

Dark Troopers and Kyle Katarn would be cool too

I was thinking more Scout Troopers on foot with sniper rifles.

Speeder bikes would be cool but would likely face the same problems as Snowspeeders and AT ATs in that they are still too big. Sniper rifle equipped scouts seem awesome. Jawas and sand people seem likely.

The loading bay of the Death Star as tiles where the mission is to board the falcon would be unbelievably awesome

Well look at Descent and then look at how well IA sold. We are going to get so much awesome stuff for this game! "Always in motion is the future, and many possible futures there are".

Lol can't believe I never thought of Yoda joining the fray.

I think Leia yoda or Lando for the Rebels.

Imperials FFG character again or Palpy, Mara, or a EU character like Thrawn. I could see more troopers or NU guys.

Mercs: I think Bossk or Zuckuss/4lom.

I think pretty much all the characters from the OT are going to get in at some point, Yoda, the emperor, probably a Hoth tile set, all them crazy alines from the Cantina, Cloud city tiles, Lando, generic rebel and imperial pilots, ghost of obi-wan, Ewoks, Rancor and the almighty Sarlacc.

Some of the EU and prequel stuff might get in as well as things ffg might make up just for the game. But expect there to be more name changes like the Royal guard champion/Carnor Jax deal.

I'm not so sure about the vehicles and things like snow-speeders and jet-bikes don't really seem to fit the game, yes we got an AT-ST but this is a small walker not a zooming flying vehicle. Are you really going to fly a snow-speeder down the halls of the facility that your team is trying to infiltrate?

And an AT-AT? really? Even if they scaled it right down it wouldn't fit on half the tiles.

Hello? A Super Star Destroyer is too large for Armada!

Hello? An AT-AT is too large for Imperial Assault!

Hello? An Imperial Star Destroyer is too large for X-Wing!

A speeder bike would only take up 2 squares, and while it would be very fast, it is doable. It might need to have alot of movement points and rules for speed/momentum where maybe it has to move and use all its movement points or something on op of being "mobile"... point is, a speeder bike could easily work with this game

probably a Hoth tile set

I can see that, but it'd probably be Echo Base interiors and maybe a bit of the trenches. We're talking snowtroopers rather than AT-ATs.

Hello? A Super Star Destroyer is too large for Armada!

AT-AT and ISD are too big for Imperial Assault and X-wing, but Armada doesn't care about your scale, look at the CR-90. You could definitely get an SSD in if you wanted to, it just wouldn't be fighting at its insane EU specifications. The thing would be a about three ISDs worth like it was in SWM (thing is, SWM gave you the SSD in the core and then all the smaller caps felt really weak.)

My candidates for large figures in the near future are rancor, dewback and Jabba. All of which are Tatooine material.

Rancor I can definitely see, and they can play that off of Tatooine, Felucia or Dathomir. Jabba maybe as a potent, highly immobile command unit perhaps. The dewback doesn't strike me as a combat unit.

Personaly as a war gamer I see no reason why Imperial assault cannot be made into a larger game where one measues with a ruler. Sure you would have to convert the movement and ranges but not beyond doing. Star wars themed games have been designed and played at games shows and of course Dust Tactics became Dust warfare so why not have walkers and snow speeders?

The actual movement rates can be coverted to inches and the weapons ranges may have to be altered slightly, or use X wing range markers so they work with the dice supplied with the game.

An AT-AT could totally work, but it would have to be freaking huge so it woudl probably cost too much. What is more likely, is that there is a DOWNED AT-AT, and the rebels are trying to get tech or intel from it and teh Imperials are trying to secure the crash site.... and maybe a map comes with the head section or something to be laid on the ground. Though I'll totally admit I'd buy astand-up AT-AT expansion, but if they ever do decide to do it, they had better make it skirmish compatible.

In other speculation - I think Hoth is totally a viable big-box expansion. Snow on one side, and Rebel Base on the other side.... and maybe even bespin tiles as well - all depends on how many tilesets they include. I'd expect Hoth and Bespin to be separate purchases however.

In terms of miniatures, we really need more Scum and Villainy bad guys, more-so than the obvious snowtroopers and rebels riding tauntauns. We should see Wampas as Creatures, other bounty hunters.
