like BSG this is another setting that would be great. FFG could start off with the United Nation Cosmo Force (also know as the Earth Defense Force) and the Gamilon Empire in the starter box. The Battle of Pluto would make a great starter scenario for a large scale battle. the Quest to Reach Iscandar would be a great 1st campaign.
Star Blazers (space Battleship Yamato) armada
There may be a slight balace issue. The Yamato just pwns everything, doesn't it?
Yes She Does but at a great cost, But if you treat Her as a "Hero Ship(character)" there are still plenty of things that happen that do not involve her. the Reboot Space Battleship Yamato 2199 had more than 1 situation where a poor decision by the gamillons allowed the Yamato to escape her Fate.
Yamoto isn't even the most powerful ship. I haven't been keeping up with the latest series but this looks pretty sweet:

And honestly, what's wrong with a few "golden guns" sprinkled in? I'm sure it'd be ballanced, they all have their super weapons, or volume. So maybe the games last only 60 minutes, not 120... That's not all that bad of a thing. Fleet engagements would be big anyways. 20 or 30 capital ships at a time, but it could be a slaughter, decisive battles every tome. I think thatd be fun, so long as its streamlined and quick (No day long games).
I don't remember the class name but that is the "Magna Flame Gun" used by the Gatlantean empire (Comet Empire in the U.S.) they are fighting the Gamillons at the same time that Gamillon is fighting Earth. other factions include the Bolar Federation, the Dengli, etc...
It will be interesting to see how the Star Wars Armada ships scale with Fire Storm Armada.
And if the SW-Armada rules don't take off, you still have some great ships to throw back into the old Full Thrust rules.
New to Armada, and love Yamato stuff too, just to share Bandai does have Yamato 2199 mini model series (Mecha Collections) that's fit perfectly Armada base. Its around $4 a ship. Just need to some experts come-out with Cards and ship-template to make it work).
They must rather tiny, because they look so large in that picture. I would love to get a bunch of those ships or any anime ship in those scale.
Scale is decent enough (see test mount)
Bandai release 15~16 ships so far
Wave motion cannon would be like 25 red dice from front arc, only usable on turn 5.
Wave motion cannon would be like 25 red dice from front arc, only usable on turn 5.
Yes but you have to dial up CF for three consecutive turns before that, while shouting "PREPARING WAVE MOTION GUN" on turns 2, 3, and 4.
Not sure about the WMG, but Yamato should throw 1 red for every main turret, 1 blue for every secondary turret, and throw as many as 4 black for the missile/torpedo types it has. Anti-Fighter could be 2 blue and/or 1 black. Does have a really impressive anti fighter ability based on what is seen. 2199 Yamato has shields where the original does not, and they are very strong, considering what is thrown at them. Maybe 3 in all arcs. Thinking scatter and brace tokens, no evasive, no redirect either. Command 3, Squadron 3, maybe 2 and 4 Engineering. They always seem to be able to pull a rabbit out of the hat. As for upgrades, don't know what would be appropriate. Speed 3 ship with 7 hull points. Hero ship, but she really isn't that big. 333 meters long, that's a little longer than a Nebulon B frigate.
Thoughts?
The problem is that the non Hero ships seem quite incapable of taking a hit before turning into and expanding ball of wreckage. That works for both sides, however.
Are their any shields in this universe at all, or is it a slugfest/dogefest where you get a kill when you land a hit, but landing a hit is the hard part?
Or will we make relatively balanced ships, with the awesome power that we see from the guns be the "perfect roll" that they can score?
There are ships with heavy armor, and a small amount that would have some form of shielding. Best example is the 2199 Yamato herself. In the reboot, she has very powerful shields that can deflect/reduce most incoming fire for a while. Most ships, regardless of size are one and done ships. Some though can take quite the pounding, especially if they are hero ships, or important character ships.
With regards to shields this new version of Yamato does have shields and the Gamilons have shields as well but I don't think the Comet Empire ships have shields.
I have a friend who's working on the Yamato for me to use in Armada he recently joined but he's waiting to be able to post.

5 black dice target all ship in Yamato's front arc as a throw away upgrade card (anymore dice will be over-kill).

Speaking of shields, Yamato should have "shell-rounds" weapon upgrade cards range 1-2 (that ignore shields) just like movie.
Forgot about the shells. Good point.
As for the Fighter Squadron, 1/1000 will fit nicely , but only know way to get them is from buying the 1/1000 scale Yamato... Garmilas and
Gatlantis carrier which will cost $60 US a pop.
Anyone know a better / creative way to get (make) solution?
Also if you don't mind the old products quality yamato mini models here is a mega pack for quick expansion of most ships from the original seriers

Starblazers online sells most ships/nations at 1:4185 scale. Not sure about the mounts to armada stands at this scale, however.
Thanks Inv-Calm that's the best suggestion. Will contact supplier on the fighters.
