Centimeters from the final - SC with Double Aggressor

By Narcoleptic, in X-Wing Battle Reports

Went to a Store Championship, haven't found the time to recap it until now. Brought my double Aggressor list I used in a previous Game Night.

IG-88B

- PtL

- HLC

- Autothrusters

- FCS

- IG-2000

IG-88C

- PtL

- HLC

- Autothrusters

- FCS

- IG-2000

/100p

It was a medium sized SC for being this area with 16 competitors, don't know why they didn't raise the number of spots available as the interest was bigger. Anyways, in the first game I met a guy I've played once before in a SC where we actually didn't manage to destroy any ships at all. This time was a little different. Unfortunately I don't remember much about the first two games, but I'll do my best.

Round 1

Dash Rendar

- HLC

- Outrider

- Recon Specialist

- VI

4x Bandits

So, this is a decent list to face for me, as I can choose to focus either the Bandits or Dash and be equally efficient. If I remember correctly a Bandit went down in the first round of combat. He started slowly putting in damage on one of the IGs. As I started taking damage I decided to shift my attention towards Dash to make up for the large chunk of points I would lose to a dying IG. Towards the end of the game he managed to destroy the damaged IG and the next round I destroyed Dash. Thanks to the Bandit I won the game with 14 points margin, just got out of a modified win.

Round 2

Whoo, another Dash build, wth? This time he was built a little differently.

Dash

- HLC

- Outrider

- PtL

- Lando

3x Refit Prototypes

He set up in one corner and I set one IG to move around the asteroids and one to cut through them. As my flanking IG turned in he turned one of the Prototypes towards the other one. Two HLC-shots later there was no A-wing anymore. After a bit of repositioning I caught Dash in a bad spot and predicted his move. He had nowhere to BR and was stressed, so I got 2 Range 1 shots at him dealing massive damage and could remove him from play the next round. From then on I just had to chase down the A-wings which did not take much effort as I'm an A-wing player and know how they perform and flew what I call "Fat A-wings". The match ended with 100-0 to me, I had just lost a few shields.

Round 3

This game was really good... That's all I can say. It ended so incredibly even. The list is actually a pretty good matchup for me, but it had its twists and turns.

Patrol Leader

- Darth Vader

- Rebel Captive

Howlrunner

3x Academy Pilot

With a decent angle of entry I can swat TIEs like flies with these two monsters, but things didn't entirely turn out as I wished. He set up in one corner in tight formation and I wanted to move both IGs around and catch him with one IG in the rear and one in the flank, and I did. He flew all his ships straight down to my side and k-turned his TIEs. I got in range the round after and caught the TIEs at Range 3 with both ships and the Decimator was out of range behind the TIEs. I blew one TIE into pieces. The next round however put me in a bad spot. On one side I had asteroids, on the other side was the table edge. A 1 bank and 1 bank boost the other way would clear the edge, but the initial maneuver would probably bump a TIE, any straight maneuver would bump, and a bank 3 past the TIEs away from the edge would be where the decimator would want to go, so I settled for a 1 straight hoping for the best, but no. I bumped a TIE and the other IG had to break off to avoid asteroids. Howl took a Range 1 shot at the IG, and I evaded all, but that's where my luck ended. I fired at the closest TIE hoping to kill it in order to reduce the number of attacks coming back at me, but I only dealt 1 damage to it. The Decimator got three hits, and I rolled 2 blanks and 1 focus. Then the TIE fired back and got 2 hits and a crit. And I evaded 1. So the last shield went and I got a Damaged Sensor Array. Next round I blasted past the TIEs and tried to remove the crit and then PtL for a boost, but the repair failed. The deci bumped to stay close, but my Autothrusters saved me from harm, but Vader disapproved and handed me a crit. PS 0. Next round it banked away from it all, repaired the Sensor Array and Boosted. I think the Decimator got another shot on me in that round in which Vader got me down to 1 Hull and gave me a Minor Explosion, oh crap. I survived though, and my other IG went after the Decimator as the autohits would mean the death of the other one. I chased after him, the TIEs going after my healthy IG. I quickly got him down to 3 Hull and then he got close enough to my damaged one. I knew I wouldn't get to shoot if I were in Range of him, so I moved in and tried to get him to bump me, but just barely missed. His shot missed thanks to Autothrusters, but Vader was still not happy and brought his own ship down to 1 Hull to destroy my IGC. We were almost out of time so it was clear that I needed to kill the Decimator. Getting a single shot would pretty much guarantee a kill as it wa B who were left alive. I was down to 3 Hull and was surrounded by 3 TIEs while the Decimator was on the run. I knew where he would move his TIEs and knew my only hope would be to move a 1 forward and hope that the Boost would be enough to get past one TIE and get me in Range and arc of the Decimator. Said and done, he moved the TIEs just as I expected, I made my 1 forward aaaaand... was about 2cm short. I couldn't get past the TIE, so I stayed with TL+Focus and destroyed the TIE in front of me. Game over, 24-50. After the game ended I measured out of curiosity, had my boost gotten past the TIE I would just barely have reached the Decimator.

This guy went to the final and won the entire thing, I ended up in 5th place, so I was fairly pleased all things considered.

I'm jealous that your dual Aggressor build got to face turrets in your store championship.

Good work!
