Battlestar Galactica armada ?

By Ozmodon65, in Star Wars: Armada

People who hold the original BSG way above the new one are looking through some serious nostalgia glasses. And I say that as someone who loves the hell out of the original series. Especially if you're talking about depictions of combat, the new series is definitely the better bet to base it off of.

I was more interested in the ancient astronaut / mythology parallel / alternate earth culture that the original ran with than the new show's "Post 9-11 America in space" angle. I also liked the original hardware more. There are other reasons I like the old show better but I'll just leave it as saying it's a difference in opinion.

There are some places on the internet that show some fan designs for the original series that look pretty cool. This page has some for the colonials. Cylons are here. The Defender on the colonial page even made it into the new series for a brief moment as the rag-tag fleet was assembling but I don't think it featured at all beyond that.

Todd Boyce has done some "Great work". TOS has a lot of good Stuff, TRS is far better developed. The BS Prometheus Fannon blends both together nicely. I would play in either setting or in one that I am kicking around in my rotting brain.

would pick it up if it came out

Don't get me wrong, the game looks amazing. I am just personally getting burned-out with everything Star Wars .

I vote Star Blazers Armada! Battlestar would probably work better in the xwing system.

BSG wouldn't work at all in the X-Wing system. Vipers can move like they're in space (spinning around, flying sideways, all that stuff), whereas X-Wing is basically WWII dogfighting with a black background. :P

Armada would capture that perfectly, given that the squadrons can move however they want.

I'd be perfectly happy with a set that contained the Galactica, Pegasus, 1 or 2 Base Stars, then some Vipers, Raptors, a Blackbird, a couple of the new Vipers. Have Apollo, Boomer, Starbuck as your main hero pilots. Then the Cylon Raiders with Scar and a couple made up ones if you have to.

Would be awesome for just a standalone game of something different.

I think you've hit the nail on the head here. There is exactly enough to have a full wave. A starter that features Galactica, a Base Star, some Cylon Raiders, and some Vipers as your starter.

A Squadron pack that features the old style raiders, the new style, Scar, Vipers, Raptors, and the Stealth Viper they built.

Pegasus as an expansion

Another Base Star as an expansion.

Could even do an objectives based expansion for each - Ressurection Ship for the Cylons, with missions, and support cards - have it be a large object that has limited weaponry but gives powerful bonusses.

And give the Humans some of the civillian ships - colonial one perhaps? Obviously some objectives would be to keep those ships alive, but some could provide buffs and other support.

Make the game standalone but also fully compatible with Armada. In the same way that Legendary is Marvel, but they've made Legendary Encounters which is in the Alien universe.

My vote is for Battle Armada Gothic!

Plus I doubt they would make a carbon copy game, FFG likes innovation and making games to suit a setting. A Battlestar Galactica game would probably be a very different animal than Armada. I'd see something more along the lines of a campaign of several missions with the BS player achieving an objective and retreating strategically across a few locations with an end goal, while the Cylon player has the goal of destroying Galactica.

Except Imperial Assault and Descent 2.0

make Battlestar Galactica with prepainted fighters and it would be an instant success.. 3 fighter's to a base.

I would buy this.

Another option for the BSG Armada is to have the Battlestars broken up into different versions: BS Mk I for the older ones, and BS Mk II for the newer ones. Have them be generic with Title options that include special abilities (e.g., the Pegasus title would be able to spend Engineering points to replace destroyed Viper squads, Galactica would get an extra Brace token, etc.).

That gives you two different models (Mk I and Mk II), with different cards and abilities for individual ships. And of course, Vipers. Lots of Vipers.

Crude first mockups:

nice raiders, so here is my first attempt at Big G, sorry it is just draft stats, I have not learned how to make the cards yet. this is the TOS version:

the Battlestar Galactica

hull = 10 defence tokens = at the moment 2x Redirect (may change 1 of these to Contain), 2x Brace

Anti Squad = 6 * Speed/ turn 1 2 3 4 Shields weapon Die: Black Blue* Red

Command = 4 x x x x Fore = 4 Fore = 2 4 4

Squadron = 8 x x 1 x Stbd = 4 Stbd = 5 3

Engineering = 3 x 1 1 x Port = 4 Port = 5 3

1 1 - x Aft = 3 Aft = 3

so what do ya think, Good, Bad, Ugly ? weapons spec's are a best guess based on what I am using for my source. to give you an idea the Black dice are missiles, Blue dice are her Dual Purpose Turbo Lasers turrets, the Red dice are the Heavy Pulsars. I have used her Turbo Laser Gun Galleries for the Anti Squad dice.

Her Squadron rating is high to represent the amount of fighters they operated per Battlestar (96 Vipers = 8 squads of 12). with 4 sets of 4 launch tubes per Landing bay she can would launch her Squadrons in 3 x 1 flight waves per Squadron ( hopefully that makes sense to everyone).

would pick it up if it came out
