Battlestar Galactica armada ?

By Ozmodon65, in Star Wars: Armada

They do have the rights to Battlestar Galactica.

I'm in but only if it's the classic ships.

I read this thread and was like "whaaaa?"

I would buy this ! if the powers that be are considering it, please DO IT!

There's not really enough variety in Galactica capital ships, classic, new, or both combined, to justify a game like Armada IMO unless they are willing to make tons of ships from scratch.

Plus I doubt they would make a carbon copy game, FFG likes innovation and making games to suit a setting. A Battlestar Galactica game would probably be a very different animal than Armada. I'd see something more along the lines of a campaign of several missions with the BS player achieving an objective and retreating strategically across a few locations with an end goal, while the Cylon player has the goal of destroying Galactica.

A standalone game wouldn't be such a terrible thing, would it? :P

There would be only something like five ships in the entire game.

Meanwhile, the Star Wars Universe must have nearly a hundred.

Wasn't there 12 Battlestar's before the cylon's ambushed them

Most of them were identical. There weren't 12 classes of Battlestars. There was one older variety (Galactica) and then the others were newer, they never went into how many classes there were, but I get the sense it was 2 or 3 at most.

Since 10 of them never saw combat (they were destroyed by the Cylons while unpowered due to the Cylon use of the security codes Gaius provided them unwittingly), they may as well have never existed. The only ships that saw combat were 2 classes of capital ships (Galactica and that other one the bitchy admiral had), and 3 or 4 varieties of squadrons (the base fighter that was most common, the support ship 'boomer' piloted, the newer fighters that were all destroyed super quick in the first episode, and I'm probably forgetting one or two other fighters)

So what you are saying is that Fantasy Flight would only have to make minor changes from the base models. Different paint schemes mostly ... sounds like a good idea from their end.

I vote Star Blazers Armada! Battlestar would probably work better in the xwing system.

BSG would be neat, but i would rather like to see FFG do a different space game they already have the license to... Battlefleet Gothic (a capital ship space combat game in the Warhammer 40K universe for those unfamiliar). This game was a Games Workshop Specialist game up till a couple years ago when they dropped it cold and stopped supporting it altogether. It was a great game that shared some heritage and similarites with SW Armada. In all honesty i think FFG makes better and more balanced Games Workshop IP games (under license) than GW does and could easily revive this game like multiple other games they (FFG) have successfully "brought back".

FFG is doing way too much GW crap already. I don't know what I despise more, the he-man optics or the marketing by rules changes.

BSG wouldn't work at all in the X-Wing system. Vipers can move like they're in space (spinning around, flying sideways, all that stuff), whereas X-Wing is basically WWII dogfighting with a black background. :P

Armada would capture that perfectly, given that the squadrons can move however they want.

I'd be perfectly happy with a set that contained the Galactica, Pegasus, 1 or 2 Base Stars, then some Vipers, Raptors, a Blackbird, a couple of the new Vipers. Have Apollo, Boomer, Starbuck as your main hero pilots. Then the Cylon Raiders with Scar and a couple made up ones if you have to.

Would be awesome for just a standalone game of something different.

I see your point, a two player Battlestar Armada box would be cool. But in regards to using the xwing system, who says you have to place templates at the front of your ship? Once you do this, i think it opens up to capturing a viper's movement very well. Change the manuver dial into a two dial system, the inner track is the ship base: top, bottom, left, right. And the second track is the normal maneuver template: straight, left, swithback, etc.

BSG and Space Battleship Yamato (Star Blazers in the U.S.) would work well in Armada and X wing. There are BSG stats for X wing already at the "A Few Manuvers" forum.

as for "Star Blazers/ Yamato" that would be great.

TOS BSG started off with the end game of a 1000 Yahren (year) War between the 12 Colonies of Kobol and the Cylon Empire. This is about as far as the Backstory was developed by shows creator the late Mr. Larsons. there is a lot of room to create in this setting (it was said that the Galactica and the Pegasus were 500 years old).

TRS BSG was fleshed out( sorry no pun intended) by Ron Moore, David Eick's and crew covering a story arc from the creation of the Colonial Cylons (about 52 years before the fall ) through the journey to Earth. There are 3 or more types of Base Stars, and Raiders for the Cylons and several different types of Battlestars, Vipers, and Raptors for the Colonials.this setting could be developed and a wave or 2 could present the TOS setting.

Both series had smaller warships for the Colonials as well but we know basically nothing about them so FFG would pretty much have to design them from scratch.

At one point in the classic series a retired Commander is referred to has having commanded hundreds of warships against two Basestars in a famous victory while in the new series Adama mentions having commanded three escorts and two Battlestars during a flashback in the series finale.

Classic ships only or get lost!

RogueCorona: TOS never shown or referred to anything other than Battlestars. having said that it would conflict with the dialog from "Take the Celestra" where Commander Kronus states that when he commanded the Battlestar Rycon and the 4th Colonial Fleet he commanded a fleet of 600 ships. these ships were never defined and had they been Battlestars like Galactica you would have to wonder how the heck they lost the war. could that have been 6 battlestars (like Galactica) + their vipers ? I like to look at the term "Battlestar" the same way "Star Destroyer" tends to be used.

That's exactly why I said they had smaller warships but that there was never any details given about those warships and their capabilities. 600 Battlestars would be absurd and counting Vipers are warships would be an incredibly generous definition of th term warship.

You could always get into the EU version of BSG.

Wolfe shipyards, various expansions to the various series. Also a Star wars library.

and there are these..

There are various manufacturers out there doing Cylons and more Colonials.

Funny, exactly what I was coming to post. Thanks.

And just to contrast some other posters, Reboot or bust MANNNNNNNNN.

I also would love to see a BSG version but only TOS.

If you could get the liscense for Space Battleship Yamato/Star Blazers I would be all in for that.

As to GW for get it, let it die!
