Mars One Delayed by Two Years. First Footprints Now Scheduled for 2027.

Screw that! I'll just do it myself.

It's a super giant hoax anyway, a project that only started with hype and no real engineering behind it.

Why don't we get Arnold Swarzenegger to go?

Get your ass to mars

get your ass to mars

get your ass to mars

if we get to mars before I get my flying car im going to be pissed.

I just want my hoverboard.

It's a super giant hoax anyway, a project that only started with hype and no real engineering behind it.

They hired the same guys who have put other landers and satellites there.

That, the moon landing, and Obama's birth in Hawaii were hoaxes too.

Buy gold.

And aluminum foil. Lots of aluminum foil.

I never said that. But this, first generating hype with no engineering background and some fancy concept art, is not the way to do it. "Oh we have no clue how to do it. Let's postpone it two more years!"

It's former astronauts, scientists, PhDs in engineering, these are the types of people that question this project. Do they have tinfoil hats too? Perhaps you should send them an email telling them to get aluminium foil. I admit I haven't read all the material available, but what I've seen was enough.

And thanks for the ad hominem Mikael, really mature.

Why do we need to go to Mars? The lizard people are here already. :|

On a serious note, the way to start the engineering to get to Mars is first to announce we will go to Mars.

You know like how we did with Luna?

We don't want the Martians to come to us. :)

It never ends well. (War of the worlds, Mars attacks!, etc...)

My brother, have you had your chill pill for today?

It's not about the chill pills. It's about how shocking it is that you don't see it as a hoax, and then compare it to NASA's achievements.

I think the response from Mars One to those accusations is pretty good. People call NASA a hoax too. Congressmen even.

Their timeline was already crazy ambitious.

What I don't understand is why they aren't practicing on the **** moon first? Its only a 3-4 day ride instead of 5-6 months. I know we have been their before but... Why not test the technology there and setup a mini-moon base? Have people live on the moon for a week or two at a time. Maybe even a few months.

The whole Mars One thing has been a bit fishy from the beginning. They claimed that they got 200,000 applicants for the one-way mission, but its been reported that the number was hugely inflated. The real number was supposedly barely 3,000. Also, one of the finalist has gone on record to saying that its a pay to go thing, instead of finding the right people qualified to visit an extra-terrestrial planet for the first time.

My not seeing it as a hoax is not shocking at all. I'm barely keeping up with it. I just thought I'd give you a friendly ribbing. There was no ad hominem intended.

Lightheartedness and sarcasm are not well conveyed over the Internet, I hope you know that.

I have no way of knowing if you're being serious or not based on your post. At face value, you were calling me a tinfoil hat conspirationist. Yours and OP's tone seemed to indicate that you guys were serious about believing in this. If we were in the bacon thread it would be a whole different story, but the context here was somehow serious, so your entire post became an accusation.

Yes, I spend quite a lot of time online, both playfully and professionally.

You're right that tonality doesn't convey very well, but it's also informative the conclusions that people tend to draw. Because this is play and not profession, I can afford to be fast and loose. If you interpret me as accusing you, and we have a falling out over it, then ... well, nothing. There's no real negative consequence other than ruffled feathers.

But frequently, when we take the time to explain ourselves to one another - such as we're doing now, propelled by the misunderstanding - then a greater understanding can be the result.
