First Ever Repaint

By Nightshrike, in X-Wing

You know that dune lizard might look sexy with suulak's style paint job on it's nose cone

So I was inspired by the TYE Wing thread to make some uglies. I couldn't get the nose of the Y-wing right to save my life on the Y-TIE, but I think the TYE-wing turned out better than expected. I was experimenting with rust for the first time. Anybody know if these are legal to play in a tournament as Y-wings? I'd love to use them tomorrow with my scum setup.

What I would do, for your Y-tie ugly is if you really wanna play it, bring it and a real Y-wing, Ask the TO if you can play it. If they give you give the green light, you are golden, I don't think it gives you an advantage in anything except length.

Thus why you bring the real Y, if it is you arn't out your ship. A couple of the Tourny sets I been to had some repaints but not mods. TO's got final call and like I said you get to play either way cause you have the orrigional too

Might as well throw my new Dunelizard on here. It's not nearly done yet, but I figured I'd show off what the new mini looks like as Mel updated the model. I LOVE the detail. It's so much cooler than the old one, which I was not expecting. Really fabulous. Gets me all excited for Wave 7, as I just know there will be a Dunelizard in it.

... I know you didn't!

Impatient Imp!

:D

Looks even better finished! I have 2 Dunelizards now. And I think I can use paypal money to buy Mel's cloakshapes, so that might be a thing...

You are going all out HUTT!

Early stages of an X-wing. I've got a lot of work to do, but I'm trying to learn the Sixwood patented red canopy trick - haven't quite got it worked out yet:

And FYI Joe -

I was running out of things to paint, so now I've got a Kimogila, a CloakShape, a Naboo N-1, a Vaksai, and a Colonial Viper Mk II all coming from Mel in frosted ultra detail. I really love his minis, my only complaint is don't drop them. They will shatter if they hit something hard for any height at all. But that's sort of the nature of the 3-D printed beast at the moment. Still, fun stuff, and after the hard lesson with the first Dunelizard, I've treated the nicer one much more carefully.

Those turned out great!

That sounds like fun. I would buy some too, but I do not like the issues that come with theses types of models.

Some good work there.

Any chance of a pic from directly above the Dunelizard, side by side with a Scyk? I'm looking at getting one and I need to order a S&V Battlefoam tray while I'm at it :D

I can probably manage that later tonight.

My Mel's miniatures arrived. First up, the beautiful Naboo N-1. Such a delicate little princess of a starfighter. I've got it next to a TIE interceptor for size comparison. Is that the right scale, Mel? Really? Crazy.

Now, the Vaksai. I love this ship. I had no idea it would look this good as a miniature. I highly, highly recommend everybody buy at least one of these. So cool.

Here is the CloakShape - just stunning.

Last but not least, the Kimogila.

Cant wait to see what you end up doing with them. Im tempted to grab a Vaksai and a Kimogila from Mel, but something tells me that FFG is going to release both of those ships within the next few waves.

But then again, I say that about the Gunboat too yet I bought two.

You're off to a great start! My only recommendation to you is to try watering down your paints a little more; multiple thin coats are better then one thick coat that'll clog detail. Also, take a little black paint and water it down a lot, adn try to gently paint it into the recessed and where panels meet to help define the different panels. :3

I recommend watching some fo the official Games Workshop "How to Paint" videos. You can learn a LOT of really cool tricks!

Yep... prequel ships are much smaller for some reason.

Those are cool and I cant wait to see your paintjob :) Are they Frosted Ultra Detail?

Yep, they are frosted ultra detail. And yeah, I went through the measurements and checked out the N-1 vs the A-wing and you've got the scale right. The cockpit is just smaller. But then when you think about it, the A-wing is 9.6 meters long. That's pretty huge considering. A 1/270 scale 6ft tall male pilot would be about 1/4 inch in height. I did some measurements based on that, and the N-1's cockpit works out to being about 3ft wide, which is not actually that narrow. I guess the A-wing's cockpit is just obnoxiously huge, which I never would have considered. Anyway, it does give me new insights into the N-1 to see it to scale. Those engines are so much sleeker and smaller than I thought they were. I love this ship. I may have to get a second one, even though I know they're not your big sellers.

You should get a Vaksai at the least. They are crazy cool.

Dammit when these ships come out all official like... den whats?

:o:huh::)

I love the blaster damage!

It looks like your A-wing has been tailing too close to a Sandcrawler. All that diesel exhaust! :o

As for practicing Sixwood's canopy detail, practice on a piece of paper or better media. Get the feel for it on a larger scale. Then move to the mini. It'll relieve that stress from worrying about having touch ups or repaints.

Wow, these look really good! And they are really inspiring: I've been meaning to get into painting for a while now, but I have no time. Hopefully by next week I'll be joining this wave of first-timers!

I really like the battle-worn A wing as well, that and the stunning Y wing!

Thanks, I super appreciate that. Painting is loads of fun. Can't wait for the weekend to paint all the new minis.

I myself have run into the problem of painting too much. I'll start off saying "Oh im just going to paint up this one ship" and an hour later ive got three ships in front of me half painted and I go "But... I didnt even plan on painting these... "
