Making double-IG88 work.

By Sixter, in X-Wing

I´m having trouble getting double-IG88 to work. So far I have both had trouble dealing with Phantoms and also multi-ship lists. What it does handle well is fighting other large ships, autothrusters being great against turrets of course. I have been kitting the 88s with Mangler cannon mostly but have come to the conclusion that I need 2xHLC for this combo to have enough firepower.

So, if I´m using HLC and autothrusters (a must include in my opinion), what is the best use of the 5 leftover points for each ship (assuming I´m keeping them equal). My current idea is to use the B and C models and give them Push the Limit and Fire-Control system. What do you think?

Personally, I love Inertial Dampeners, those have saved me so many times. At other times, I thought I should use them and didn't and ended up getting destroyed. It's a tricky card to use, especially against ships with higher PS than you, but I feel it is very powerful. But I usually don't run HLC, so I have points to spend on that upgrade. My cannon of choice has been the "Mangler" Cannon and I felt that it did well for me. Right now I'm on an Ion Cannon + Autoblaster kick, but that's neither here nor there.

I haven't tried Push the Limit + Fire-Control System. It seems like you'd have decent damage output with that combo.

My Aggressors have struggled against Phantoms as well. I hope Ion Cannons can help out somewhat.

What kinds of multi-ship lists are you struggling with? I feel like TIE Swarms aren't too bad of a matchup, but 4x B-wings can be really tough.

Push the Limit will let you tank up with focus+evade+autothrusters, but it does preclude you from being able to K-turn or S-Loop next turn. You're pretty much locked into taking a bank or a straight maneuver, which is a pretty clear tell for your opponent, and a savvy player will use that opportunity to get a positioning advantage.

Have you considered Outmaneuver? It makes great use of the Aggressor's unpredictable movements, especially if you opt to use 88D, and HLC + FCS against a target at -1 defense is pretty lethal.

I took hlc autothrusters ptl and fcs to a store championship and won. my feelings on it though are that even without fcs, hlc with igb will do a ton of damage, my hardest battles were against rebel b wing based squads. what I would try is taking expert handling instead of ptl, and advanced sensors instead of fcs. you do a bit less damage and can't turtle as easily but adv sensors and expert handling will make it a lot harder for squads like that to get close range shots on you.

I think I would only take Expert Handling if I had Advanced Sensors. I took Expert Handling and Accuracy Corrector to game night this week and never had a chance to use Expert Handling because I was always boxed in by other ships, asteroids, or the edge of the board once I executed my maneuver. With Advanced Sensors, you might be able to use it more by barrel rolling when you have a clear opening and then clearing your stress.

Here is the list that I have been playing on vassal, and went over in NOVA Podcast Episode #20

Terminators

IG88-B (50 points): Outmaneuver, Autothrusters, HLC, FCS, title

IG88-D (50 points): Outmaneuver, Autothrusters, HLC, FCS, title

So cool seeing Outmaneuver on there. It's one of my favorite EPTs.

I was thinking of trying out

IG88-B(50 points): veteran instincts, advanced sensors , Autothrusters, HLC, dampeners, title

IG88-C(50 points): veteran instincts, advanced sensors , autothrusters, HLC, dampners, title

I listened to the podcast, some great points brought up there. I like the idea of the D-model in there with outmaneuver since you can throw some curves with all those S-turns in the mix. I´m going to try this exact build the next time I get the chance to play.

I use

IG88-B(50 points): Wingman, advanced sensors , Autothrusters, HLC, title

IG88-D(50 points): Wingman, advanced sensors , Autothrusters, HLC, title

With this you basically dance around your opponents many times. It's a bit hard to keep them in range 1 and you obviously don't do it all the time, but I trigger Wingman 6-8 times per game.

I was runner up my local store championship today running this:

IG88 B & C

Stay on target

Advanced sensors

HLCs

Autothrusters

Title

They are supreme low PS bullies. My major concern was high PS arc Dodgers but I found, in the two games I had with high PS arc Dodgers, that I could use the sloops and/or advanced sensor boost to cover so much space with my firing arcs that getting the likes of Fel and Echo into arc was rarely a problem.

Loved it. The list felt just right. I lost in the final to a fat Han. I just couldn't get more than a couple of hits on him despite all the gunner re-rolls.

My first couple of tries with dual 88s were Wingman builds. You can do some awesome stuff, but having to essentially fly them in formation can be a problem. One asteroid or blocker can sink you.

I don't think 2 IG88 is going to be a big thing long term I find flying them fun and have had success using them but there not a good 2 ship list like Han and Corran or Chewe and Leebo

They can work and work well but there not game breaking

They can work and work well but there not game breaking

That's not a bad thing. They're competitive but have weaknesses. That's a good thing.

I placed 2nd in a Store Championship today flying dual Aggressors

IG88-B(50 points): Predator, advanced sensors, Inertial Dampeners, HLC, title

IG88-D(50 points): Predator, advanced sensors, Inertial Dampeners, HLC, title

I'm a big fan of asymmetrical builds. I used this one for my last store championship. Went 4-0 in Swiss with the highest MOV going into elimination.

IG88B

- Fire Control System

- Push The Limit

- Mangler Cannon

- Hot Shot Blaster

- Autothrusters

IG88C

- Advanced Sensors

- Adrenaline Rush

- Heavy Laser Cannon

- Inertial Dampeners

- Autothrusters

The nice thing about this build is that it forces the opponent to spend extra attention to the differences between each ship. Each build works on its own merits, so it doesn't hurt as bad if B gets focused out early.

The Buzzdroids list

Currently 12-2 between a store championship and another tourney running this list.

IG-88B & IG-88C

Both with Predator, Advanced Sensors, Autothrusters, Title, "Mangler Cannon and Inertial Dampeners

I use Predator over Push the Limit because stress is a killer. So once things get tight and you start turning around a lot you can't use it.

Only squad I really struggled against was Echo and Kath with Rebel Captive and Mangler. Ton of stress.

PILOTS

IG88-B (49)
Aggressor (36), Lone Wolf (2), Advanced Sensors (3), “Mangler” Cannon (4), Seismic Charges (2), IG-2000 (0), Autothrusters (2)

IG88-D (51)
Aggressor (36), Predator (3), Advanced Sensors (3), “Mangler” Cannon (4), Proximity Mines (3), IG-2000 (0), Autothrusters (2)

To be honest double aggressors is the only S&V list that is working. I haven't seen many S&V squadrons that don't have double aggressors and succeed.

I faced off against a dual Aggressor list yesterday and beat it with Soontir and 2 phantoms. Arc dodging and a lot of attack dice make Aggressor sad.

Depends on your definition of succeed. I had already won a store champ in late January. So any SC I went to after that I was flying casual. My next SC I went to was 2 or 3 days after scum came out and I flew this list. I finished 3rd place overall out of 16. I ended up winning the top 4 prize and $30 store credit witch I used to by my second Aggressor.

IG-88 D - autothrusters - HLC - predator - advance sensors - predator

N'Dru Suhlak - PLT - cluster missiles

Syndicate Thug - Blaster Turret - Bomb Loadout - Genius - BTL-A4 Y-Wing - Proximity Mines

My store meta seems to like 2-3 ship builds so I'm thinking of actually running Chewie with jan ors crew/MF title/c3po/ptl along with nera w/Flechette torps x2/munitions Failsafe/VI and a prototype awing with chardaan. Give Chewie 2 evade tokens plus c3po so basically eliminates 1 whole attack from anyone. Or if someone runs IG-b I'll negate all but 1 damage so gunner can't trigger. Meanwhile nera is hitting them with stress and the prototype try's to get into range 1 and/or block. That's my plan this week at least haha. See what happens. My double firespray list is doing good tho so if this week doesn't pan out ill just switch back to it.
