Help me tweak my Bomber list?

By RagnarokSquadron, in X-Wing Squad Lists

I've been running this locally as of late, and I like the bare bones of it, but I can't help but think that some tweaking could make it even better:

  • Colonel Jendon (31) -- Lambda-Class Shuttle (26) + ST-321 (3) + Fire-Control System (2)
  • 3x Scimitar Squadron Pilot (23) -- TIE Bomber (16) + Concussion Missile (4) + Proximity Mines (3)

It comes out to an even 100 points. When I'm flying my absolute best, hitting my marks, putting my ships exactly where I want them, this list is scary good. The problem is that if I'm off my intended position by even a few millimeters, it's not fast enough or maneuverable enough to recover. I like the bare bones of the list, but I'm wondering if there is anything I can do to make it a tad more forgiving. Thoughts?

If you dropped a prox mine and added an ion cannon to the shuttle, would that help out any?

The ion cannon, in my playtesting, is a mixed bag. Keeping ships positioned where I need them to be in order to successfully deploy the Proximity Mines is incredibly useful, but I'm sacrificing potential damage output from the shuttle by limiting it to one damage per turn. Add to that that I'm also losing a Proximity Mine use, it becomes nearly a wash in how useful it can be.

As for using Cluster Missiles, they're great against Decimators. Otherwise, I just don't think the points are well spent on two separate three-dice attacks (at least one attack being likely unmodified), as opposed to the four-dice attack from Concussion Missiles that get a bit of a boost to the rolls from the munitions, as well as being able to potentially have a Focus to spend.

Have you done much playtesting with Homing Missiles vs Concussion? It would seem like the target lock reroll plus the inability for the defender to use evade tokens would be worth the 1 point bump in price.

Actually, I have not used Homing Missiles at all. Because of where I am on points, I would have to downgrade the Proximity Mines to Seismic Charges to get Homing Missiles to fit.

Just throwing an idea out, you could swap the 3x Concussion for 2x Homing and 1x Flechette torp. Your Homing missiles might have a better chance of landing hits and then the Flechette, while it's one less attack value, always lands a stress even if all the dice miss. You could use it to slow down an arc dodger that outmaneuver you.

That's an interesting tweak. I'll see if I can get some table time with it sometime soon. Thanks for the input!
