Flight Instructor & Autoblaster Turrets

I think that Flight Instuctor and Autoblaster Turrets are my new favourite cards. I'm also joining the "I love bombs & mine" crowd too. I played last night using Emon with two Thug Ys. Chewed up a TIE swarm and a Rebel swarm in two battles.

The ABT was so freakin' useful once the furball started, and then even as we broke. Of course, rolling pretty much hits instead of crits really helped too. It seems to get overlooked from the range 1 limit, but inside that messy little battle that always seems to happen, it was wildly useful. Having each Thug with a Prox Mine too kept my opponents from being too wary about getting in behind me.

Flight Instructor on Emon saved him multiple times. Sure, I know all abou dice probability, but getting that reroll when the Eye showed up worked (as it was an Obsidian swarm).

Any other thoughts on FI? ABT on Ys?

I also considered autoblaster turret on kavil but I'm too scared to try it in my tourney haha. Seemed like if I were to use it I would want engine upgrade and unhinged astro to guarantee range 1. I don't usually get into fur balls on the table since it's just a dice chucking match and so I try to avoid those if I can. But I will get around to using it one of these days haha.

Kavil with a blaster turret is pretty scary. Give him a shot sometime too.

Stick a Flight Instructor on Torkil Mux.

Fill rest of squad with Predators.

Profit.

Its just too **** expensive.

4 points is rare upgrade card territory. If it was even 3 points I could see running it on some ships. On a Firespray I just rather run Rec. Spec. and turn that eyeball with a focus token, rather than rely on FI to roll and only have a 3/8s chance.

Yes I'm actually thinking of trying him with marksmanship, blaster turret, agromech, exp interface. Comes out to 36 points, but I'll pair him with mando merc and torkil mux.

I play him with blaster and agromech on a team with a kitted out Kath with HLC and a Scyk with Ion as support. It's a pretty tasty 3 ship crew as the Scyk supports and the other two dump 4 dice out all over the place.

Why would fight instruction be better than recon?

Because RecSpec gives you a Focus x 2, which (if you didn't spend it yet on your atttack rolls) will let you modify up to two defense dice rolling events, whereas FI will work on every defense roll - granted on only one potential die (depending on your attacker's PS), and it's not a sure thing. Basically, it's how much probability you're willing to accept for a 3-point vs. a 4-point card.

Given the number of low PS builds I'm still seeing, that could certainly be a profitable squad.
