Feats in RtL

By player33475, in Descent: Journeys in the Dark

The FAQ essentially states that the heroes get their normal 3 Feats throughout the length of the RtL campaign. I have read the discussion about this here on the forum.

Does anyone have an opinion about whether this mod would be a good one? Essentially, the heroes get Feat Cards in number and type based on the Skill Cards they have i.e. 1 Feat Card to start and rising as the heroes gain more Skills.

The heroes each receive 3 feats at the start of the campaign and then one per hero whenever a glyph is activated. Ia am unclear on how you would scale up the number of feats as the heroes gain skills.

My understanding was that Feat Cards were drawn at the start of each dungeon. I see I am wrong on that.

I was suggesting that each Hero draws a number of Feat Cards and of the type equal to the Skill Cards they currently hold.

In the first dungeon, this would be one card. The Feat Card max limit would be double the number initially held (like in the normal game) i.e. 2.

As heroes progress and gain more Skills, they start with more Feat Cards and can hold more.

As the heroes get more skills they need and use feats less and less. Further, the general theme is that the game is hardest for the heroes in bronze (and if anything, needs balancing back to the heroes) and easiest for the heroes in Gold (and definitely needs some balancing back to the OL). So your idea is really a bit pointless IMO.

I was dead set against feats in RtL initially (because they were a complete balance change, free for one side, nothing for the other). I playtested several variations on feats in order to try and get them into RtL - they are cool and fun to play with as long as they don't imbalance things.

However the latest FAQ made significant changes. The heroes lost Telekinesis and Bear Tattoo (their best and maybe second best skill options) and the OL lost Poltergeist (nice, but rare) and one Crushing Blow (doesn't change anything except overuse). Now I consider Feats to be the 'make up' balance wise for Telekinesis and the game is better all round for both sides with feats in and Teke out, while the balance is approximately maintained.

In summary, the RAW for Feats now works fine IMO (theory) and IME (practical).

Good points, though I am not sure I agree with the idea being "pointless".

Nice to know. I will stick with them too. Thanks for the reply.

Yes, sorry, bad choice of description. Perhaps "heading in the wrong direction" would have been more accurate?

It is similar to some ideas that were out before the FAQ change, and makes some sense for an attempt to 'add' feats in to RtL if they weren't there already. The main problem with this and all the similar ideas was that they operate in reverse to the actual balancing needs for Feats (before Teke and Bear Tattoo were removed).
