Large Ships in Tournaments

By Kimbo81, in Star Wars: Armada

I'm just hoping the trade in points for fewer ships will make better returns on attacks.

ie, a Star Destroyer should hit harder on one attack than two Victories when they contribute their fire on a target. Or, they need to be more robust than both...

I hope not. There is already the dreadnought problem. There was a race for bigger ships for a reason in WW I. The model of damage in Armada aggravates this: A ship with one hit point left can fight as well as a ship without a scratch, so bigger ships have a huge advantage.
That is not particularly, or at least consistently, true. The ability to deal face up damage cards seems far more obtainable then in X-wing. Depending on how harsh the effects are on damage cards, a riddled up ship could end up very ineffective. Now damage cards can be repaired, but that takes a command. Taking that command requires a degree of foresight for your 3+ command ships, and you do it at the cost of more combat effective commands.

Bigger ships have both more shields and more engineering points.

It's going to depend alot on points costs.

Remember that this is really an objective based game so say you need to "capture" objectives and this one ship costs 2/3 of your list. That's not very viable. Now say it's kill the other flagship, then it's very viable.

It'll have advantages and weaknesses like it should :)
