How about that STAR WARS X-WING GAME?

By Joe Boss Red Seven, in X-Wing

Pretty good game...

:D

Yeah. TIE fighter was great too.

X-Wing Alliance is aces.

I'll bite.

I'm really glad I finally started playing. I'm a lifelong video gamer, board gamer, and tabletop role-player. I have a ton of WotC D&D and Star Wars miniatures that I used for RP, but I've never been much of a strategic miniature or war-gamer. I've been collecting X-Wing since shortly after release, but only recently in the last few months began playing with a friend, and then graduated to playing with several members of a really great group on Mondays at our FLGS... A social hurdle I'm happy to have finally overcome. It's fun to play, fun to lose, fun to win, fun to try new ships, new lists, different combos, and I LERVES doing repaints and mods on the already-excellent figures.

Right now, it's Friday night after work, my GF bailed on me, and I'm halfway into a six-pack of Ninkasi Dawn of the Red and neck-deep in the fantastic video game, Ori and the Blind Forest, but I really just want to pack up my gear, head down to the store and see if anyone wants to play or learn to play.

I'm happy to say I have corrupted at least two(2) other friends that after playing with my figures for a while, began investing in their own collections...you know you have them when they buy their first plastic carrying case. However, they are both very reasonable, financially responsible people with goals so I know their collections will never crest my own madness. :)

I don't play tourneys, I don't care about the meta. Maybe it's because I'm new, but I have as much fun getting trounced by Phantoms or Dash as I do trying out BS all-HWK lists to see what happens.

NICE!

TIE Fighter is better, though XvT had its charms.

Best part about this game is that most of the people I've played against are middle aged dudes who are respectful and tactile and just a pleasure to play with. Definitely a social step up the ladder and an upgrade from the majority-assholes who play Magic: The Gathering.

Oh yeah, and little plastic Star Wars ships have always been something I wanted since forever.

It's gotten me right into tabletop gaming in a way I've never been before. I wouldn't ever have even considered attending a tournament for any other game I've ever played but I've been to three x wing tourneys so far and I have a fourth booked for May (Regionals).

Best part is, it's fun to play regardless of winning or losing.

I never thought that I would play a tabletop minis game seriously... Just seemed like such a huge investment, especially considering how affordable D&D is, comparatively.

But man did i fall hard for this system. Reasonably affordable miniatures, a setting I've loved my entire life, rules that aren't ridiculously complicated...

It's pretty much perfect for me.

Welcome to the madness.

In depth enough for tourney level play, but simple enough for a non gamer to pick it up and shoot my ties down first go. Begginer luck..... Lol

I'm also a display my shinys style guy, and man does the cr-90 command some presence. Now I'm torn between my colossal red Dragon and the vette as my display center.

ZFreie how about clearing room for an epic space battle with both? lol

Welcome to the madness.

Yeah, I've only been at this about 3 months and I have 25 minis already (4 of which are large ships). "Madness" is accurate.

I have 35 and I started this in February. Is there a thread where we can give our names and go through 12 steps or something like that? Might be handy...

Humm we do need something like xw aa

To be fair, if I didnt have to eat or pay rent (or fix my car... rassm frassm thing is why I dont have scum ships yet), I'd have more than I already do. But real life is getting in the way of my new obsession. :-D

Five stars. Would play again.

I have an addiction to minis lol

I think some of the custom paint jobs are quite original and awesome to look at, so that is part of my addiction to minis as well.

yup they do.

:)

XvT:BOP still one of my top 3 games of all time. Having real issues getting TCP/IP to work with it though.

I've lost count of how many ships I have.

It's worth mentioning that my 40K spending has shiveled down to ~10% of normal per year. I started ~march 2014.

This said I did just buy a neat sniper squad for my Raptors from forgeworld.

Since the snipers are basically long barrel bolters i count them as sternguard.
