Career & Specialization for a super Newb

By Aaryq, in Star Wars: Age of Rebellion RPG

Howdy, folks. I have a really dumb question for you about this AoR. My brother bought this game a few months back and now that I moved near him, he wants me to join in. I'm only just getting into this game but I've been playing tabletop RPG's regularly since 1998 and got started around 1994 when I was a youngster.

Is a "multi-class" type thing capable in this game? The reason I'm asking is Luke Skywalker was obviously both an Ace Pilot and a Force Sensitive (actually a jedi but whatever) and I'd like to do something similar except take the engineering route with Force Sensitive. I didn't see anything expressly prohibiting dual classing but I also don't want to offset the balance of the game or make it all about me.

Help me Fantasy Flight Games Forum. You're my only hope.

Yes & no, but really yes. :)

You start with 1 career. (Thats the big over title kinda thing.) This never changes, you never get a second one, etc.

You start with 1 specialization (The smaller thing with the talent trees). This one has to be in your career.

You may then elect to buy (when you get experience) a new specialization. This new one may, but does not have to, be from your career. This is the rough equivalent of multiclassing.

In your specific case you would start as an Engineer:Mechanic. You would then want to pick up Force Emergent as a second specialization at a later time.

You start with a Career and one specialization but from there you can choose any other specialization that is not an exact duplicate of another along with access to the the specialization skills as career skills and associated talent trees. Your initial career choice does restrict what signature abilities you may have later and how much it costs to select those additional specializations but thats all.

Thanks for the quick replies.

What page has those rules?

If you're using the AoR Core Rulebook, read the section on spending XP, starting on page 102. Page 103 talks about buying new specializations.

You have a copy of the core rulebook but you're not able to find the section that discusses Careers and Specializations?

You may also want to check out the Force and destiny book. That one has a force sensitive mechanic career:spec.

I didn't think this book was available yet?

How would he/I check that?

Beta is available, gold release in another 5 months or so.

At the very least you may want to ask for a rebuild clause. You know, make a mechanic/emergent now so you can start playing, with the option to rebuild as an artificer at the same xp level when the final f&d book arrives...
