Spring Equinox, Solar Eclipse, Snow on Spring's 1st Day...

By The Professor, in Arkham Horror Second Edition

... aaaaand another thread falls off into the abyss.

(By the way, Queen Frostine is where it's at.)

You know, for a najme like Frostine ...she's kinda hot . :D

I really should have seen that coming.

In the most recent game, Jenny , Amanda , Harvey , and Pete raced through Other Worlds and sealed six Gates against Azathoth .

In the end, the Hero of Arkham was Harvey ~ he used the Lure Monster Spell to save other Investigators , passed his Personal Story , and defeated a game-high (at least for Harvey ) nine Monsters ( Byakhee , Child of the Goat , Dimensional Shambler , 2 x Formless Spawn , Ghoul , Goat Spawn , Witch , and Zombie ) with his Enchanted Blade and Gladius of Carcosa . Along with his Ally , Sir William Brinton , Harvey sailed through the final chapters of the story with 7 Sanity and 5 Stamina !

We also had 23 Mythos cards, we won with a score of 21, and didn't experience one Rumor card!

While the Investigators Carolyn , Vincent , Joe , and Gloria defeated Ithaqua by sealing six Gates , they were not without injuries, including...

Carolyn : Concussion

Vincent : Jinxed, Head Wound, and Cracked Ribs

Gloria : Back Injury and Injured Arm

Amazing, but true.

Cheers,

Joe

Arkhamaniacs,

Following a few games this weekend, due to International Tabletop Day ~ Historia , Shadows Over Camelot , and Kingsburg , I managed to play another Arkham Horror game with Mandy , Darrell , Bob , and Mike vs. Yog-Sothoth.

After 16 Mythos cards, the Investigators managed to seal six Gates ~ here are some notable session events:

Mandy : Despite assisting her fellow Investigators , she never had more then a Derringer almost the entire game.

Darrell : While I've modified his Personal Story (since it never made any sense to me), he actually failed it in the end, but managed to amass 15 Clue tokens at one point.

Bob : Passed his Personal Story and managed to get Cursed and lose the Cursed card at the first possible opportunity.

Mike : He never fails to do well in the "clean streets" department...defeating a Byakhee , Child of the Goat , Cultists (x2), Formless Spawn , Ghoul , Goat Spawn , Gug , Nightgaunt , and Zombie.

We managed a win and score of 26 in under two hours!

Cheers,

Joe

The latest adventure involved Kate , Minh , Monterey , and Leo against Atlach-Nacha !

Read about a Scientist's act to save her colleagues...

a young Secretary's harrowing experience in the Other Worlds ...

an Archaeologist's desperate fight at the Unnameable ...

...an Expedition Leader's ability to maintain calm in the midst of chaos...

Coming Soon!

Atlach with only the core board? Holy cow, Joe! Sounds like the longest game EVER... I had to do that during the second French League (well, actually it was AH+KH, but the number of burstable location is the same) and it was the only time I was bored by the game....

Julia,

Well, as ol' A-N comes in at a nearly 50% win rate, my quick analysis pointed to one thing...the Gate Bursts ! So, I'll give you a peek behind the curtain...I play my Gate Bursts like, I beleieve Richard Launius, in that they don't explode and a Gate appears, but that you turn over the Elder Sign , revealing the Doom token first, with a Gate appearing only after the second Gate opening.

Ciao,

Joe

I see ;) Totally more doable then! G'd luck to your fellow investigators, Joe!

Back to our story with Kate , Minh , Monterey , and Leo against Atlach-Nacha !

During the adventure, Kate was fortunate to have stopped four Gates from appearing due to her flux stabilizer. She raced from location to location, garnering as many Clue tokens as possible before diving into an Other World . Along the way, she impressed Carl Sanford , gaining a Silver Twilight Lodge Membership . Armed only with her Fetch Stick and fortunate to have a +1 Fight , she held her own against the denizens both inside and outside of Arkham .

For an otherwise nondescript Secretary , Minh proved to be a life-saver on several occasions as she helped Monterey at least two times while battling fearsome creatures. Additionally, she made friends and influenced people as evidenced by her two Allies , Thomas Olney and David Packard . With the Skills +1 Will , Stealth , and Spot Hidden , along with a Map of Arkham , she made her way across town with ease, defeated nearly a half-dozen monsters, and managed to close three Gates on her own.

Despite his "3" Sanity, Monterey managed to hold it together long enough to pass his Personal Story and single-handedly defeated the Terrible Experiment Rumor , for which he managed to trade those carcasses for sorely needed Clue tokens. With his . 38 Revolver , Bullwhip , Gruesome Talisman , and a Gladius of Carcosa , he defeated a fair share of the monsters, terrorizing the city and survived several Other Worlds .

Finally, the intrepid Leader of the group, Leo used his ties, as a Criminal, to get what he needed thanks to his Sheldon Gang Membership . With an Elephant Gun , a Military Motorcycle , and a pair of Handcuffs , he cleaned-up the town, passed through R'lyeh , and thanks to Kate , saved Arkham .

Atlach-Nacha had grown restive and the Doom Track had climbed to 9 before stalling. Then it steadily rose to 10..11..12! With no time to lose, Monterey exited from The Abyss and with his Fight set low due to fighting monsters, he didn't have the strength to close the Gate . Minh raced to him, tossing him an Elder Sign which he used immediately to seal the Gate . At the other end of town, Kate lowered her gaze as she entered the old building, knelt quietly in the alcove, and lit a candle praying for her friend. Several neighborhoods away, Leo received the Blessing from above...and while surprised by his own abilities, he smiled as he closed the last open Gate in Arkham , sealing away...for now...the Spider-God.

Our Investigators ended the game with the following possessions ( Common Items / Unique Items / Exhibit Items / Spells / Skills / Allies / Special ):

Kate: Fetch Stick , Tablet of Bast , Intervene , Call Down the Storm , Fight +1 , and Clairvoyant, and Silver Twilight Lodge Membership and Monsters : Cultist, Dimensional Shambler, Maniac, Nightgaunt, and Witch

Minh: Makeup Kit, Press Pass, and Map of Arkham , Alien Device and Cryptozoology Collection , Heal and Shrivelling , Stealth and Spot Hidden , David Packard and Thomas Olney ; Monsters : Cultist, Dark Young, Flying Polyp, Ghost, and Ghoul; and Gates : The Abyss, The Dreamlands, and Yuggoth

Monterey: .38 Revolver, Bullwhip, Gladius of Carcosa, Carcosan Page, Gruesome Talisman , Enchant Weapon , Fight +1 and Initiate ; Monsters : Chthonian, Elder Thing, Goat Spawn, Star Spawn, and Vampire; and Gates : The Abyss and Great Hall of Celeano

Leo: Handcuffs, Elephant Gun, Military Motorcycle, and Food , Criminal and Hide, The Messenger, and Sheldon Gang Membership and Blessing ; Monsters : Byakhee, Child of the Goat x 2, Cultist x 5, Ghoul x 2, Gug, and Zombie x 3and Gate : R'lyeh

Joe,

I'm not so sure if I'm more impressed by a victory against Atlach with core set only, or by the colorful formatting of the last part of the post...

Ha! Remember...my Sealed Gates don't add a Gate Token when the Gate Burst occurs. As to the colorful formatting, I had hoped it would prove readable...

Uh, true, it's two bursts = 1 real burst, right? Should make Atlach more playable with core only :)

Exactly...despite being an experienced played, Atlach is just a b*****d, so here's how I play him...

If an Investigator Closes a Gate and a Mythos card reveals a Gate at the location, it appears

If an Investigator Seals a Gate and a Mythos card reveals a Gate at the location, it removes the seal , but no Gate appears.
